Erick Sermon is the best producer
Erick Sermon is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter and entrepreneur. He is known as one-third (along with Parrish Smith) of the hip hop group EPMD, and for producing songs for a number of artists including Keith Sweat, Redman, Xzibit and 50 Cent. He was born on November 16, 1968 in Bay Shore, New York.
As a teenager growing up on Long Island, Sermon began his music career as a DJ for local radio station WBAU. After graduating from High School, he and Smith decided to form their own band called EPMD which stands for “Erick and Parrish Making Dollars”. The duo released their first album in 1988 entitled “Strictly Business”. The album was a commercial success reaching Platinum status. They went on to release 5 more albums until going their separate ways in 1992.
Sermon pursued a solo career and released his debut album “No Pressure” in 1993. The album did not achieve the level of success of his work with EPMD but did spawn the hit single “Hip 2 Da Game” featuring singers Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. In 1995, he produced Redman’s breakout album “Dare Iz a Darkside” which helped to launch Redman’s career. In 1997, he produced Keith Sweat’s platinum album “Make It Last Forever” which contained the hit single “Nobody”.
In 1998, Sermon rejoined forces with Smith to reforming EPMD and released the album “Out of Business” that year to much success. They followed this up with another album in 1999 entitled “Back in Business” before again going their separate ways in 2000.
Since then, Sermon has continued to produce albums for other artists including 50 Cent (Get Rich or Die Tryin’), Busta Rhymes (It Ain’t Safe No More) and Xzibit (Restless). He has also released several solo albums including his most recent “Revelation” in 2017.
