Indie rock

In general, indie pop artists have a DIY approach to their music; they are often associated with independent record labels, DIY culture, and an aesthetic DIY ethic.

The genre evolved in the United Kingdom during the 1980s with the development of punk and new wave-influenced bands such as The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Slowdive, Lush, Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Suede, Britpop emerged as a response to perceived drawbacks of indie pop; specifically that it was too dominated by singer-songwriters and lacked “rock & roll swagger.”
