The label was home to artists Hopsin, SwizZz, Jarren Benton, Dizzy Wright, and producers Kato on the Track and Michael “Seven” Summers. In 2016, the label was dissolved after Hopsin’s departure.

Funk Volume’s first release was Joey Badass’ mixtape, 1999. The mixtape was followed by Hopsin’s debut album, Raw.

In 2012, the label released two albums, one by each of its flagship artists. Hopsin’s second album Knock Madnessand Joey Bada$$’s debut studio album B4.DA$. Both albums were met with critical acclaim and commercial success.

On January 26, 2016, Hopsin announced he was leaving Funk Volume due to creative differences with co-founder Dame Ritter. As a result, the label was dissolved.
