The Biggest Winners
This year’s Hip Hop Music Awards were full of surprises. From Drake’s 13 wins to Cardi B’s headline-stealing performance, there was a lot to talk about. But who were the real winners and losers of the night?
The Winners
Drake
There’s no denying that Drake was the big winner of the night. The Canadian rapper took home a record-breaking 13 awards, including Best Male Hip Hop Artist and Lyricist of the Year. Not bad for someone who’s been in the game for less than 10 years.
Cardi B
While she didn’t win any awards, Cardi B’s performance was one of the highlights of the night. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper brought down the house with her high-energy performance of “Money”. She also had a few choice words for haters who think she doesn’t deserve her success.
Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar was another big winner of the night, taking home 6 awards, including Best Collaboration and Verse of the Year. The Compton-bred rapper has quickly become one of the most respected rappers in the game, and it looks like he’s only going to continue to rise in popularity.
The Losers
Kanye West
It was a rough night for Kanye West, who went home empty-handed despite being nominated for 8 awards. The rapper – who recently made headlines for his support of Donald Trump – was snubbed in all categories, including Lyricist of the Year, an award he has won in previous years.
The Biggest Losers
Eminem – It was a big night for hip hop, but unfortunately not for Eminem. The legendary rapper lost out in all three of the categories he was nominated in, including Best Hip Hop Video, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song.
The Best and Worst Dressed
It was a night of surprises at the 2017 Hip Hop Music Awards. Some of the biggest winners included Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and DJ Khaled. On the other hand, some of the biggest losers included Lil Yachty and Chance the Rapper.
When it came to fashion, there were a few standouts. Cardi B rocked a sheer dress that left very little to the imagination. Lil Uzi Vert also turned heads in a red and black suit. However, not everyone impressed on the red carpet. Gucci Mane wore a tracksuit that was probably more appropriate for lounging at home than for an awards show. And Desiigner showed up in what can only be described as a poncho with holes in it.
