In addition to honoring the best and brightest in hip hop music, the awards will also feature tributes to some of the genre’s biggest legends.

The Winners
Eminem was the big winner at the awards, picking up a total of five awards, including best rap album for “The Marshall Mathers LP2” and best rap performance for “The Monster.” Other winners included Iggy Azalea, who won best new artist, and Kendrick Lamar, who won four awards, including best rap song for “i.”
The Performances
The awards show was packed with incredible performances. Some of the standouts included Kendrick Lamar, who performed his hits “Alright” and “DNA,” and Chance the Rapper, who gave an electrifying performance of his song “No Problem.” Other highlights included a moving tribute to the late Prince by The Time, and a stunning performance by Beyoncé, who sang her hit “Formation.”
The Red Carpet
The 2016 Hip Hop Music Awards took place on Sunday, October 9, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and the red carpet was full of fashion forward celebrities. For the most part, attendees stuck to a dress code of black and white, with a few pops of color. Some of the best looks of the night came from Nicki Minaj, who donned a plunging white gown with strap details; Alicia Keys, who rocked a loose-fitting black jumpsuit; and Desiigner, who showed off his unique style in a red and black camouflage suit.
