The 1975

The 1975 are an English pop rock band from Wilmslow, Cheshire. The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew Healy, bassist Ross McDonald, lead guitarist Adam Hann and drummer George Daniel. The band’s original line-up included Healy’s school friend Jamie Oliver (aka Joff Oddie) on lead guitar. Hann and McDonald replaced Doughty and DeVries respectively in early 2013. Debuting with a self-titled album in September 2013, they have released four consecutive number-one albums in the UK: I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are Beautiful So I Am Easy for You to Love (2016), A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships (2018) and Notes on a Conditional Form (2020). Their singles “Chocolate”, “Sex”, “Robbers”, “Somebody Else”, “Love Me”, “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME” and “The Birthday Party” have all charted within the top ten in other countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and the United States.

The National

The National absorbed the best of what came before them and created something unique with their debut album, “The National.” They followed that up with their sophomore effort, “Alligator,” which was even better. From there, they’ve only gotten better, with each album being a critical and commercial success. They’re one of the few bands that are able to straddle the line between mainstream and indie rock, and they’re one of the best bands around today.

“Wake Up” by Arcade Fire

The song is six and a half minutes long and consists of three distinct sections. The first section is dominated by a marching snare drum rhythm and features Win Butler’s echoey vocals. This section ends with a chord progression similar to the chorus of “Heads Will Roll” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The second section features a more subtle snare drum rhythm and Richard Reed Parry’s pulsing bass line. This section culminates in an extended crescendo that builds towards the third section.

The third section features heavier instrumentation, including distorted guitars and pounding drums. Butler’s vocals become more intense as he shouts the lyrics “It’s coming! It’s coming! It’s coming!” This section ends with a return to the marching snare drum rhythm of the first section.

“Wake Up” was well-received by critics and was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 49th Grammy Awards. The song has been used in several films and television shows, including Intervention, Friday Night Lights, Skins, and The OC.
