The King of Rock Music, Elvis Presley, was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He began his musical career in 1954, and became one of the most popular and influential musicians of the 20th century. He died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42.

Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo blend of country music and rhythm and blues.
In 1955, drummer D.J. Fontana joined to complete the classic lineup of Presley’s band the “Clovers”. Between 1955 and 1958, they released a string of hit singles including “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, and “Don’t Be Cruel”. Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender (1956). In 1958 he was drafted into military service. His career was interrupted by a two-year hiatus owing to his service.
When Presley returned from the army in 1960, he found massive success with a series of number-one hits across multiple genres including pop ballads like “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”, uptempo rockers like “(You’re The) Devil in Disguise”, and crossovers like “Viva Las Vegas”. He became the most commercially successful solo artist in history with a series of record-breaking releases over much of the second half of the 20th century. In 1968 he recorded a gospel album; that same year he returned to live performances with a critically acclaimed television special that has come to be known as the ’68 Comeback Special. His career continued with hits such as 1969’s “Suspicious Minds” and 1972’s “Burning Love”. In 1973 Elvis staged another successful comeback with Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite, which aired live around the world on January 14th 1973. Financial troubles plagued Presley from 1971 onward; by 1976 Succeeding years saw further deterioration of his health. On August 16th 1977 at his Graceland estate in Memphis Tennessee, Elvis Presley died at age 42 from cardiac arrest brought on by years of substance abuse

The first stable line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar), Mick Jagger (lead vocals), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass), Charlie Watts (drums), and Ian Stewart (piano). Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued to work with the band as a contracted musician until his death in 1985. The band’s primary songwriters, Jagger and Richards, assumed leadership after Andrew Loog Oldham became the group’s manager. Jones left the band less than a month before his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who remained until 1974. After Taylor left the band, Ronnie Wood took his place in 1975 and has been on guitar ever since. Following Wyman’s departure in 1993, Darryl Jones joined as their touring bassist. Other touring keyboardists for the band have been Nicky Hopkins (1967–1982), Billy Preston(1971–1981), Ivan Neville(1989–1993), Chuck Leavell(1994–present) , and Matt Clifford(2016-present).
The Rolling Stones were at the forefront of the “British Invasion” of bands that became popular in the United States in 1964 and were identified with the youthful and rebellious counterculture of the 1960s. The Stones were ranked number 25 by VH1 on their list 100 Greatest Artists Of All Timings[11][12]and number 33 simultaneously by VH1 and Blender.[13][14][15]
