Shakira is a Columbian singer, songwriter, dancer, record producer, and actress. At the age of 18, she released her first album, Magia, which failed to attain commercial success. However, Shakira’s next album, Pies Descalzos, brought her great success and led to her becoming one of the most popular Latin recording artists of the 1990s.

Her beginnings

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her father, William Mebarak Chadid, is a Lebanese American who emigrated to New York as a young man. Her mother, Nidia Ripoll Torrado, is of Catalan and Italian descent. As a young girl, Shakira wrote poetry and sang in the school choir. When she was four years old, she started taking belly-dancing lessons. By the time she was eight years old, she was performing at school functions and festivals.

Her musical style

Shakira is a Colombian singer, songwriter, dancer, businesswoman, and philanthropist born and raised in Barranquilla. Her music incorporates Latin pop, rock, hip hop, reggaeton and she is also known for her signature belly dancing. Shakira has sold more than 140 million albums worldwide and has won numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards. Billboard magazine ranked her as the fourth-best-selling female artist of the 2000s decade.

His next album, Me Amaras, was released in 1993 and was also a huge success. Martin’s first English-language album, Ricky Martin, was released in 1999 and was a huge hit all over the world.

His beginnings

Ricky Martin began his career at a very young age. He first appeared on television in the mid-1980s, when he was just a child. He quickly became a teen idol in his native Puerto Rico, and soon after, he rose to international prominence as a member of the Latin pop group Menudo. After leaving Menudo, Ricky pursued a solo career and released his debut album in 1991. His self-titled album was a huge success, spawning several hits including “Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Día” and “María”.

Over the course of his career, Ricky has released 11 studio albums and sold over 70 million records worldwide. He has also won numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammy Awards. In 1999, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his song “La Copa de la Vida”, which was featured in the film The Mask of Zorro. In addition to his musical career, Ricky has also appeared in several films and television shows. He made his acting debut in the 2000 film Once Upon a Time in Mexico and has since starred in such films as The Lost City and Shall We Dance?. He also had a recurring role on the hit TV series Glee.

Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. Estefan has won seven Grammy Awards and is one of the best-selling Latin artists of all time. She is also the first Latin American woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Her beginnings

Gloria Estefan was born in Havana, Cuba, on September 1, 1957. Her family moved to Miami in 1959, after Fidel Castro took power. Estefan’s father, a former Cuban army officer and bodyguard for Cuban president Fulgencio Batista, joined the U.S. military. Gloria began taking English classes and singing in her school choir.

In 1975, she met Emilio Estefan, Jr., a musician who was part of the band Miami Sound Machine. The couple married in 1978 and have two children: Nayib (born 1980) and Emily Marie (born 1994).

Emilio Estefan became Gloria’s manager, and helped her attain international stardom as the lead singer of Miami Sound Machine. The group scored a string of hits with catchy, up-tempo songs like “Conga” and “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You.”

Selena

Selena Quintanilla was a Mexican-American singer who achieved mainstream success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, on April 16, 1971 and was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. Selena began her musical career as a member of a band called Selena y Los Dinos.

Her beginnings

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. Her father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., was a Mexican-American musician who had started his own record label, AB Quintanilla Productions, to produce Spanish-language records. Selena began her musical career at age nine, singing with her brother and sister under the name Selena y Los Dinos. The group recorded several albums before Selena’s untimely death in 1995.

Her musical style

Selena’s musical style is a combination of Latin, Cumbia and Tejano music. Selena was born in Texas and is of Mexican descent. Her father, Abraham Quintanilla, Jr., was a musician who played guitar and drums in a band called Los Dinos. Selena’s older siblings, A.B. Quintanilla III and Suzette Quintanilla, were also in Los Dinos. Selena began performing with the band at a very young age. In 1986, the band released its first album, ‘Contigo Quiero Amar’.

Selena’s first solo album, ‘Selena’, was released in 1989. The album included the hit single ‘Como La Flor’. Selena released her second album, ‘Ven Conmigo’, in 1990. The album featured the hit singles ‘Baila Esta Cumbia’ and ‘Si Una Vez’. Selena’s third album, ‘Entre a Mi Mundo’, was released in 1992. The album included the hit singles ‘La Carcacha’, ‘Buenos Amigos’ and ‘Completamente Loco’.

Selena’s fourth album, ‘Amor Prohibido’, was released in 1994. The album featured the hit singles ‘Amor Prohibido’, ‘No Me Queda Mas’ and ‘Bidi Bidi Bom Bom’. Selena won a Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Album for ‘Amor Prohibido’ at the 37th Annual Grammy Awards in 1995.

On March 31, 1995, Selena was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, her fan club president and former employee.
