Introduction

The Billboard Latin Music Awards is an annual awards show that recognizes the most popular albums, artists and songs in Latin music, as determined by Billboard magazine. The awards ceremony features musical performances by some of the biggest names in the Latin music industry.

The 2010 Latin Music Awards were held on April 29, 2010 at the BankUnited Center in Miami, Florida. The award show was broadcast live on Telemundo.

This year’s award show was hosted by actor Enrique Iglesias and television personality Evelyn Sánchez.

With 2010 coming to a close, it’s time to start looking ahead to next year and the new artists that are sure to make waves in the Latin music world. Here are 10 artists to keep an eye on in 2011:

1. J Balvin: This Colombian reggaeton singer is one of the most buzzed-about new artists of the moment, thanks to his fresh take on the genre and his killer songs “Yo Te Lo Dije” and “En Lo Oscuro.”

2. Maluma: Another Colombian artist making waves is 20-year-old Maluma, who combines urban genres like reggaeton with traditional Latin rhythms like cumbia and salsa. His debut album Invasion is due out in early 2011.

In 2010, Shakira was the most successful artist on the Latin music charts, followed by Mexican pop group Rbd and Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes. Shakira scored a total of eight top-ten hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart, three of which reached number one. “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, her official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, topped the charts in several countries and was a top-ten hit in many others. Rbd had six top-ten hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart, including two number-ones, while Juanes had five. Other artists with multiple top-ten hits included Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias.
