History

The Latin Grammy Awards are an annual award show that features performances and honors recordings in Spanish and Portuguese language. The show is produced by the American network Univision and has been broadcast live on television since its inception in 2002. The awards ceremony takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is usually held in November or December.

The Latin Grammy Awards were established in 2000 as a response to the success of the Grammy Awards, which recognized excellence in the recording industry worldwide. The first Latin Grammy Awards were handed out in September of 2001, honoring recordings released between July of 2000 and June of 2001. Since then, the awards have been given out annually.
