About Mick Rock

The exhibition
The exhibition at the warwick arts centre features over 150 striking images of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd, many of which have never been seen before. Mick Rock’s photography captures the carefree abandon and spirit of Syd Barrett’s golden years, when he was the leading light of Pink Floyd. The exhibition also features contributions from other photographers who captured the psychedelic scene in London during the late 1960s, including Don McCullin, Michael Joseph, Roger Swan, Gered Mankowitz and Denny Laine.

Mick Rock is best known as the “man who shot the seventies” – as he photographed many of the defining images of that most creative and turbulent of decades. As well as rock n roll legends such as Bowie, Roxy Music, Queen, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Syd Barrett, Mick also turned his lens on the burgeoning New York punk scene, including shooting Blondie’s first album cover.
This exhibition at The Proud Galleries celebrates 50 years of Mick Rock’s extraordinary photography with a selection of over 80 original prints. It includes iconic images of Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd and several never-before-seen shots of David Bowie during the making of his Ziggy Stardust persona. Also on display are intimate portraits of Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and many other legends of rock.

Mick Rock: Psychedelic Renegades – An Exhibition of Photographers of Syd is a new exhibition at the stonespace gallery in Hackney, London. The exhibition features the work of twelve photographers who captured the Syd Barrett years from 1967 to 1968.
The photographers include Mick Rock, who shot the famous cover of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn; Octavio Arizaga, who took the last known photos of Syd before he left Pink Floyd; and Jill Furmanovsky, who photographed Pink Floyd live during their early years.
The exhibition runs from May 12th to June 17th, 2018, and is free to enter.
