Introduction
2013 was a great year for pop and rock music. There were a lot of new artists that emerged and established artists that released great albums. This list will go over some of the best pop and rock albums of 2013.
The Year in Pop
2013 was a banner year for pop and rock music. We saw a wide variety of artists emerge and break through to the mainstream. We also saw some veteran artists make a comeback with new music that was just as good as their older hits. Let’s take a look at some of the best music of 2013.
The Rise of Miley Cyrus
In 2013, Miley Cyrus was inescapable. The former child star’s every move was dissected by the media, from her raunchy live performances to her new hair cut. And she knew exactly what she was doing.
“I’m an adult now,” Cyrus told Rolling Stone in October. “I can do whatever I want.”
And that’s exactly what she did, with a succession of attention-grabbing antics that included twerking on Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards, smoking pot onstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards and posing provocatively in an array of revealing outfits.
It all started with the release of her fourth studio album, “Bangerz,” in October, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The lead single, “We Can’t Stop,” topped the pop charts and became one of the year’s biggest hits, while follow-up single “Wrecking Ball” also went to No. 1.
Cyrus’ rule-breaking behavior and willingness to push boundaries made her one of the most controversial pop stars of 2013, but also one of the most popular.
The Return of Justin Timberlake
After a hugely successful debut solo album and a starring role in one of the year’s biggest movies, Justin Timberlake made his much-anticipated return to music in 2013. His new album, “The 20/20 Experience,” was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over 900,000 copies in its first week. Timberlake also embarked on a hugely successful world tour, which included sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl.
The Success of Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars was one of the most successful pop and rock artists of 2013. His album “Unorthodox Jukebox” topped the charts in several countries and his singles “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man” were both global hits. Mars’ success was due in part to his ability to appeal to both pop and rock audiences, as well as his energetic live performances. He was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 2013, winning two.
The Year in Rock
2013 was a huge year in rock music. We saw the return of classic rockers like David Bowie and Fleetwood Mac, as well as the rise of new stars like Lorde and Hozier. It was a year of huge comebacks and breakout hits, and there was something for everyone. Let’s take a look at some of the best pop and rock music of 2013.
The Rise of Imagine Dragons
rock band Imagine Dragons experienced a meteoric rise to fame in 2013. The Las Vegas-based group’s debut album, “Night Visions,” was released in September of that year and immediately hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s first single, “It’s Time,” had been a sleeper hit in 2012, but it was the second single, “Radioactive,” that made Imagine Dragons a household name. The song was a massive success, spending an unprecedented 87 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning two Grammy Awards.
The Return of Kings of Leon
It’s been three years since Kings of Leon released their last album, “Come Around Sundown,” and in that time, the band has regrouped, refocused and rediscovered its sense of purpose. The result is the first single from the band’s forthcoming album, “Mechanical Bull,” which is due out on September 24th. The song, “Super Soaker,” finds Kings of Leon returning to the anthemic rock that made them stars in the first place.
If you’re a fan of Kings of Leon, or if you’re just looking for a great rock song to add to your summer playlist, be sure to check out “Super Soaker.” It’s a welcome return from a band that we’re glad to have back.
The Success of Mumford & Sons

The band consists of Marcus Mumford (lead vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards), Winston Marshall (vocals, banjo, electric guitar) and Ted Dwane (bass guitar, double bass, upright bass, backing vocals).
