Introduction

The Metropolitan Opera announced today that it will be bringing its world-renowned opera music to San Antonio, TX, in the spring of 2020. The performances will take place at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and will feature some of the world’s most celebrated operatic talent.

This is exciting news for opera fans in San Antonio and the surrounding area, as the Metropolitan Opera is widely considered to be one of the premier opera companies in the world. Founded in 1883, the Metropolitan Opera has been a leading force in the opera world for over a century, and has produced some of the most memorable performances in opera history.

The Metropolitan Opera’s performances in San Antonio will mark the first time that the company has brought its operas to Texas since 2011, when it performed at The Dallas Opera. The San Antonio performances will also be the first time that the Metropolitan Opera has performed at the Tobin Center for The Performing Arts, which opened in 2014.

The Metropolitan Opera’s performances in San Antonio will take place on May 8th and 9th, 2020. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on December 3rd, 2019.

San Antonio Opera Companies

San Antonio has a rich history of opera companies that have thrilled audiences for generations. The San Antonio Opera Company was founded in 1926 and is the oldest continuously operating professional opera company in Texas. The San Antonio Symphony Orchestra began presenting operas in the 1930s, and the San Antonio Gilbert and Sullivan Society was founded in 1948. The San Antonio Lyric Opera Company was formed in 1988 to bring quality professional opera productions to the Alamo City.
