What is the Portland State Opera?

The Portland State Opera is a student-run opera company at Portland State University. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for students to perform and work behind the scenes in all aspects of opera production. We present one mainstage show each term, as well as various other events throughout the year. Our mainstage productions are fully-staged operas with professional orchestras, costumes, and sets. We strive to provide an intimate and affordable opera experience for both our performers and our audiences.

What is the Music of the Night?

The Music of the Night is an annual event put on by the Portland State Opera. It is a night where people can come and enjoy live music from a variety of different opera performances. There is also food and drink available for purchase, as well as a raffle and silent auction. All of the proceeds from the event go to support the Portland State Opera.

Ultimately, Erik’s obsession with Christine leads him to kidnap her and take her away to his underground lair. Although he intends to keep her there forever, Christine’s love for Raoul prevails and she escapes back to him. In the end, Erik realizes that his only chance at happiness is to let Christine go and he disappears into the night.

The Music of the Night’s Performances

The Portland State Opera will be performing the music of the night at the Portland State University on the nights of April 27 and May 4. The music of the night will be performed by a live orchestra and will feature the Portland State University Symphonic Chorus. This will be a rare opportunity to hear the music of the night live and in person.
