The best live rock performances of 2013

There were many great live rock performances in 2013, but some truly stood out from the rest. Here are our picks for the best live rock performances of 2013:

* Foo Fighters at Wrigley Field – The Foo Fighters put on an amazing show at Wrigley Field this past summer, treating fans to a mix of new songs and classics. The energy and excitement was palpable, and the band sounded better than ever.

* Muse at Madison Square Garden – Muse always puts on a great show, but their performance at Madison Square Garden in October was something special. With a setlist that spanned their entire career, Muse showed why they’re one of the best live bands in the world today.

* Queens of the Stone Age at Lollapalooza – Queens of the Stone Age delivered a blistering set at Lollapalooza this past summer, cementing their status as one of the most exciting rock bands around. Their mix of new songs and classics was perfect, and they had the crowd in the palm of their hand from start to finish.

* Arctic Monkeys at Glastonbury – Arctic Monkeys wowed audiences at Glastonbury with a set that featured songs from their new album, AM. The band sounded great, and their performance was one of the highlights of this year’s festival circuit.

The worst rock albums of 2013

2013 was not a great year for rock music. While there were a few bright spots, the vast majority of rock albums released this year were utter rubbish. Here are the worst of the worst:

-The Foo Fighters’ “Sonic Highways” was a colossal disappointment, an overlong and unfocused mess of an album.
-Led Zeppelin’s “Celebration Day” live album was also a major letdown, offering little new or interesting material for fans of the legendary band.
-Miley Cyrus’ “Bangerz” was one of the most baffling and grating albums of the year, with its mix of cutesy pop melodies and crass lyrical content.
– Nickelback’s “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here” was another low point for the increasingly irrelevant Canadian band, offering more of the same uninspired hard rock they’ve been churning out for years.

The worst rock songs of 2013

The year 2013 was a great one for rock music, with many bands releasing excellent new albums and singles. However, not every song released this year was a winner. In fact, there were quite a few that were downright terrible. Here are the ten worst rock songs of 2013:

10. “YOLO” by The Lonely Island feat. Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar
This bland, idiotic song is everything that is wrong with modern pop music. It’s mind-numbingly catchy, but it’s also completely devoid of any nutritional value whatsoever. It’s the musical equivalent of a junk food: it might be temporarily satisfying, but it will leave you feeling empty and regretful afterwards.

9. “I Wanna Be Sedated” by Blink-182
Blink-182 reunited this year after an eight-year hiatus, and while their comeback album isn’t entirely bad, it does contain this forgettable re-recording of their classic punk anthem. It’s a pale imitation of the original, and proves that sometimes it’s best to leave well enough alone.

8. “All My Friends” by Foxygen
This self-indulgent dirge is eight minutes long, but feels twice as long thanks to its aimless meandering and grating vocals. It’s the kind of song that would make even the most dedicated hipster want to gouge out their own eardrums with a rusty fork.

7. “Sail” by Awolnation
This incredibly irritating song was inescapable on rock radio this year, thanks to its overplayed usage in commercials and television shows. The fact that it won a Grammy only makes it worse; sometimes the music industry just doesn’t make any sense.

6. “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” by Fall Out Boy
This obnoxious power ballad finds Fall Out Boy at their least melodic and most tryhard; it sounds like they’re trying desperately to recapture the success of their earlier hit “Sugar We’re Goin Down.” Unfortunately, this clunky mess just isn’t as catchy or clever as that song was. avoid it at all costs unless you enjoy being assaulted by grating guitar chords and unintelligible screaming vocals.

The biggest rock flops of 2013

From disappointing album sales to delays in major tours, 2013 was not a great year for many in the rock music industry. Here are some of the biggest flops of the year:

-Mumford & Sons’ sophomore album Babel sold just 600,000 copies in its first week, far below expectations. The band ended up cancelling their planned UK tour due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
-After topping the charts with their 2011 album Wasting Light, Foo Fighters’ eighth studio album Sonic Highways could only manage to reach No. 2 in the US. The band blamed “tough competition” for the lackluster sales.
-Trophy Eyes’ debut album Everything Is Temporary was one of the most anticipated releases of 2013, but it failed to live up to expectations, selling just 3,000 copies in its first week. The band blamed “a perfect storm of several factors” for the poor sales.
-Green Day’s trilogy of albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! were billed as a return to form for the punk rockers, but they failed to make a dent on the charts, with each album selling less than 500,000 copies in the US.
