The Shepherd School of Music Opera presents six fully-staged operas during the 2019-2020 season. These operas will cover a wide range of styles, from the Baroque era to the 21st century. The season will open with George Frideric Handel’s “Alcina”, followed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”. Next up is Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème”, followed by Giuseppe Verdi’s “Don Carlo”. The season will conclude with two contemporary operas: Jake Heggie’s “Dead Man Walking” and Kaija Saariaho’s “L’Amour de Loin”.

The Shepherd School of Music will present two fully staged operas and two concert operas during the 2019-2020 season. The season opens with Gioachino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” on October 31 and November 2 in Duncan Hall. James bankston will direct with Riccardo Frizza conducting. Alessandro Talevi will direct Giuseppe Verdi’s “Falstaff” on February 27 and 29 in Duncan Hall. Carlo Rizzi will conduct.
Both fully staged operas will have English translations projected above the stage. All performances are open to the public, and tickets are available through the Rice University Box Office.
