Sony Music Latin

History

Sony Music Latin is a record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment. The label focuses on artists from Spain and Latin America, although it has released material from other countries as well.

The label was founded in 1997 as a joint venture between Sony Music and Grupo Zeta, a holding company belonging to the Ortega family (owners of the Spanish newspaper El País). In its early years, the label specialized in reissues of albums by artists such as Camarón de la Isla and Lola Flores.

The first artist signed to the label was Argentine rocker Gustavo Cerati, who had success with his albums Bocanada and Siempreviva. Other early signings included Enrique Bunbury, Miguel Bose, Julieta Venegas,Filteria, and Jesse & Joy. In recent years, the label has expanded its roster to include younger artists such as Maluma, Ozuna, J Balvin, Farruko, ROSALÍA, Camila Cabello, Karol G, Aitana, Manuel Turizo, Zion & Lennox.

Since its inception in 1991, Sony Music Latin has signed and promoted some of the most successful Latin artists in the world. Notable artists on the label include Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Romeo Santos, Marc Anthony, Juanes, and Gloria Trevi.

Romeo Santos

Romeo Santos is an American singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist. As the lead vocalist of the American Bachata group Aventura, Romeo Santos rose to fame in the early 2000s. The group’s popularity led to a successful solo career for Romeo Santos, who has released four studio albums and numerous singles.

Biography

Romeo Santos was born in the Bronx, New York on July 21, 1981. His parents are from the Dominican Republic. As a youngster, he was a big fan of Bachata music and artists like Luis Vargas and Joaquin Sabina. He started writing songs when he was just 11 years old. When he was 12, he formed the group Los Gudy Boys with some friends. The group only lasted for a short time but Romeo continued to pursue his musical dreams.

In 2000, Romeo met Aventura’s Lenny Santos (no relation) and they started working on music together. Aventura was already established as one of the leading Bachata groups in the Bronx. Romeo joined the group and they released their first album, We Broke the Rules in 2002. The album did well but it was their second album, Love & Hate that made them superstars. The album’s first single, “Obsesion” topped the Latin charts and crossed over to mainstream radio in the United States.

Aventura continued to release hit albums and singles over the next few years. In 2009, they released their last album before going on hiatus, The Last. During their hiatus, all of the members of Aventura pursued solo careers. In 2011, Romeo Santos released his debut solo album Fórmula Vol. 1. The album was an instant success, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and #1 on the Billboard 200 chart (making it the first Bachata album to ever achieve that feat). It also won a Latin Grammy Award for Best Tropical Album.

Romeo Santos has released two more albums since then, both of which have been huge successes. He is currently one of the biggest stars in Latin music and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.”

Music career

Romeo Santos signed a joint venture recording contract with Sony Music Latin and Top Stop Music after the breakup of Aventura. His first solo album, Formula, Vol. 1, was released in 2011 and debuted at number one on the US Billboard Top Latin Albums and number nine on the US Billboard 200. The album featured the singles “You” and “Promise”, which peaked at number one on the Hot Latin Songs chart. In 2012, Santos won five Premios Juventud awards.

Santos has won numerous awards throughout his career, including four Latin Grammy Awards, eight Billboard Latin Music Awards, and six Premios Juventud. He has also been nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2012, Romeo Santos was honored as the favorite artist of the year at the Premios Juventud. In 2013, Santos received the prestigious “Billboard Spirit of Hope” award for his humanitarian work with children’s hospitals.

Gloria Trevi

Gloria Trevi is a Mexican singer, songwriter, actress, television host, and philanthropist. Often referred to as the “Supreme Diva of the Mexican Pop”, Trevi has sold over 20 million records worldwide. She has had a number of successful singles including “Pelo Suelto”, “Dr. psiquiatra”, “La noche”, “No querias lastimarme”, and “Todos me miran”.

Biography

Gloria Trevi is a Mexican singer, songwriter, actress, television host, and businesswoman. She was born in 1968 in Monterrey, Mexico, and began her career in the early 1980s as a member of a girl group called Boquitas Pintadas. In 1989, she released her first solo album, Gloria Trevi, which established her as one of the most controversial figures in Latin American music.

In the 1990s, Trevi’s career went through a tumultuous period marked by personal and legal problems. In 2000, she was arrested and jailed on charges of kidnapping and corruption of minors; she spent five years in prison before being released on parole. After her release from prison, she made a comeback with the release of her album Libre in 2007. Since then, she has continued to tour and release new music to critical and commercial acclaim.

At age 12, Trevi was sent to a children’s reform school. It was there that she formed a girl group called “Prima Juventud” (“First Youth”). The group’s name was inspired by the 1985 Mexican film, Jóvenes Brujas (“Young Witches”). In 1988, Trevi left the group and began pursuing a solo career. Her first album as a solo artist, Gloria Trevi, was released in 1989. The album generated four singles: “Dr. Psiquiatra,” “Mujer Libra,” “Todos Me Miran,” and “Con los Ojos Cerrados.”

Maluma

Maluma is a Sony Music Latin artist who is taking the world by storm. His music is a mix of reggaeton, pop, and R&B, and his songs are catchy and sure to get stuck in your head. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Luis Fonsi, Ricky Martin, and Shakira.

At the Latin Grammy Awards, Maluma has been nominated five times and won once. His first nomination was in 2015 for Best Male Pop Vocal Album for Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy. In 2016, he was nominated in the same category for his second studio album F.A.M.E.. The following year, he won his first Grammy in the Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album category for his album 11:11. In 2019, he received two nominations at the 20th Latin Grammy Awards: Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Mala Mía”. For the latter, he became the youngest artist ever to be nominated in both categories in the same year.

At the Premios Juventud (Youth Awards), Maluma has won three times out of eight nominations. His first two wins were in 2016: Male Artist of the Year and Social Artist with Most Impact on Their Fans (the latter awarded through social media voting). In 2018, he won Digital Artist of the Year.

J Balvin

Biography

J Balvin is a Colombian reggaeton singer. He is one of the biggest names in Latin music and has collaborated with some of the biggest artists in the world, including Justin Bieber, Cardi B, and Beyoncé.

Born in Medellín, Colombia, J Balvin began his musical career posting homemade videos of himself singing reggaeton songs on YouTube. He was eventually signed by Sony Music Latin and released his debut album in 2014. His breakout hit was “6 AM,” which became a worldwide smash and launched him into stardom.

Since then, J Balvin has released several more hit albums and singles, including “Ay Vamos,” “Ginza,” and “Mi Gente.” He has won numerous awards, including three Latin Grammy Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards. In 2018, he became the first Latino artist to headline Coachella.

Music career

J Balvin began his career in music in 2003. He released his first album, Campamento, in 2006. The album was not a commercial success, failing to sell more than 1,000 copies. Balvin was disappointed with the album’s reception and did not expect to pursue a career in music. However, his cousin Alvaro Hinojosa convinced him to give music another try.

In 2010, Balvin released his second album, La Familia. The album peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Latin Albums chart. It also spawned the hit single “Mi Gente”, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Latin Songs chart. The success of the single helped the album become a commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies in the United States.

In 2013, Balvin released his third album, Tranquila. The lead single from the album, “Ay Vamos”, became a huge success worldwide, reaching number one in several countries and becoming one of the most streamed songs on Spotify. The song’s success helped Tranquila become a commercial success, selling over 1 million copies worldwide.

In 2015, Balvin released his fourth album, Energia. The lead single from the album, “Ginza”, became a massive global hit, reaching number one in several countries and becoming one of the most streamed songs on Spotify. Energia went on to sell over 2 million copies worldwide and cemented J Balvin’s status as a global superstar.
