The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual music awards show that honors the best in soul, R&B, and hip-hop music. The show is produced by the American cable television network BET and airs on BET’s sister network, Centric.

The awards ceremony was established in 1987 by Don Cornelius, the creator of the long-running television dance show Soul Train. The award show was originally known as the Black Gold Awards, but was renamed the Soul Train Music Awards in 1989.

The Soul Train Music Awards are given out in a variety of categories, including Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Best R&B/Soul Group, Best Hip-Hop Artist, and Best New Artist. There are also awards for song of the year and album of the year. The award show also features special performances by some of the biggest names in soul, R&B, and hip-hop music.

The first show was held in 1987 and it continued annually until 2006. In 2009, the show returned after a three-year hiatus, and has continued to air annually on BET Networks.

Tamar Braxton

Tamar Braxton was one of the most nominated artists at The Soul Train Music Awards this year, and she took home the award for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist. Braxton has been making waves in the music industry since her debut album in 2000, and she shows no signs of slowing down.

Tank

The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual award show which honors the best in African American music. The show is produced by the makers of Soul Train, the long-running television program which featured music, dance, and fashion.
