The show has been revived three times on Broadway; the first production opened in 1993 and starred Patti LuPone as Maria; the second opened in 1998 starring Rebecca Luker; and the most recent production opened in 2006 starring Laura Benanti.

The Sound of Music has been adapted into two films; the first was released in 1965 starring Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Georg; it was directed by Robert Wise and won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
