EDM has its roots in the disco and club music of the 1970s and 1980s, but it really came into its own in the 1990s with the rise of genres such as techno, house, and trance. In 2011, Guetta was voted as the number one DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll. In 2013, Billboard crowned “When Love Takes Over” as the number one dance-pop collaboration of all time.

Born to a Moroccan father and a French mother in 1967, Guetta began to DJ at the age of sixteen. Tiësto is a Dutch DJ and record producer from Breda. He was voted “The Greatest DJ of All Time” by MixMag in a poll conducted in 2013, and is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures in electronic dance music. In the early 2000s, he pioneered the use of trance tracks with elements of classical music, and his frequent collaborations with Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten helped to raise the popularity of trance music. He has also produced orchestral remixes for tracks by U2, Coldplay, and Justin Timberlake.

Skrillex

Skrillex is an American electronic dance music producer, DJ, singer and songwriter. He has won a total of eight Grammy Awards and is credited with popularizing the dubstep genre. Skrillex’s net worth is estimated to be $30 million.

Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland is a Belgian electronic dance music festival held in Boom, Belgium. Tomorrowland was first held in 2005. The festival takes place on the last weekend of July. The festival is organized by ID&T.

In 2014, Tomorrowland had 300,000 attendees from over 200 countries. In 2015, the festival took place in two weekends: the first from 24 to 26 July and the second from 31 July to 2 August. The festival was sold out on both weekends. In 2016, the festival will take place in Brazil for the first time with a capacity of 60,000 people per day.

Ultra Music Festival

Since its debut in 1999, the Ultra Music Festival has been one of the most popular electronic dance music festivals in the world. Drawing in massive crowds from all over, the festival has grossed over $1 billion dollars in ticket sales, making it the highest grossing EDM festival of all time. Ultra takes place annually in Miami, Florida and features some of the biggest names in electronic music.

EDC Las Vegas

(EDC) Electric Daisy Carnival is an annual electronic music festival created by Insomniac Events, which began in 1997 as a one-day event in Los Angeles. In 2012, over 345,000 people attended the three-day festival in Las Vegas, making it the largest music festival of its kind in North America.

TomorrowWorld

TomorrowWorld was a three-day electronic music festival held near Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, United States, southwest of Atlanta. The first edition of the festival took place on September 27–29, 2013. Organizers recalled attendees after severe weather conditions hit the festival on its final day. A second edition was held on September 25–27, 2015. On March 23, 2016, the organizers of TomorrowWorld announced that due to logistical challenges and poor ticket sales, the 2016 festival would not take place.

On May 10, 2013, it was announced that a new United States-based electronic music festival named TomorrowWorld would take place from September 27–29, 2013. The event was an expansion of the Belgian event Tomorrowland and was operated by ID&T. According to organizer McMillan, “TomorrowWorld would bring the best DJs in the world to Georgia in order to create ‘The Movie.’ It’s going to be like walking into a movie.”

The first phase of artists who were scheduled to perform included: Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Tiesto, David Guetta, Avicii, Dillon Francis and many more. Kaskade was also scheduled to perform twice during TomorrowWorld; once during the “Pre- Party” on Friday and again during the main event on Saturday night.
