“Uptown Funk” is a song by British-American record producer Mark Ronson from his fourth studio album, Uptown Special (2015), featuring American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars. The song was released as the album’s lead single on 10 November 2014. Jeff Bhasker assisted the artists in co-writing and co-producing the track, and contributed his guitar, bass and keyboards to the session. The single’s artwork was illustrated by Sam Spratt, who also worked with Mars on additional artwork for the album. “Uptown Funk” peaked at number one on several international charts, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom; as well as spending 14 consecutive weeks atop of the US Billboard Hot 100— becoming both Ronson’s and Mars’ first number one in the country as a solo artist. Additionally, it gave Mars his tenth US top ten single—extending his record for the most by a male solo act—and spent 31 weeks in total on the Hot 100 chart.
The song won two Grammy Awards: Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. As of July 2019, “Uptown Funk” has sold over 13 million units in equivalent units globally according to Nielsen Music—marking it one of only 30 songs to have reached this double-Platinum status since Nielsen’s tracking system began in 1991; it is also one of only eight songs to have achieved triple-Platinum status with sales of over three million units in equivalent units.
