K-UTE

K-UTE is a Psychedelic Rock station that is headquartered in Utah. The station has been on the air since 2006 and is owned by the University of Utah.

Location

K-UTE is a non-commercial, student run college radio station broadcasting out of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. The station is run entirely by volunteer DJs who play a wide variety of music, with an emphasis on alt/indie rock, hip-hop, and electronic dance music.

K-UTE can be heard on 106.5 FM HD2 in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, as well as online at kute.Utah.edu. The station is also available on the TuneIn Radio and iHeartRadio app platforms.

History

K-UTE, Utah’s first and only progressive rock radio station, went on the air in May of 1971. The station was started by a group of University of Utah students who were dissatisfied with the local radio scene. They felt that there were no stations that played the kind of music they wanted to hear.

K-UTE quickly became a popular alternative to the more mainstream stations in the Salt Lake City market. The station’s focus on album-oriented rock, as well as its willingness to play longer tracks, made it a favorite with listeners looking for something different.

In the early 1980s, K-UTE began adding more new wave and punk tracks to its rotation. This broadening of its musical scope helped the station attract a wider audience, and by the mid-1980s, it was one of the most popular radio stations in Utah.

In recent years, K-UTE has continued to evolve, adding newer genres like indie rock and hip hop to its playlist. However, its commitment to playing quality music from a wide range of genres has remained constant, making it one of the most unique and enjoyable radio stations in the state.

KRCL

KRCL is a community-driven radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah. The station is known for playing local, independent, and underground music. They also have a focus on socially and politically conscious music. One unique feature of the station is their willingness to play Psychedelic Rock music.

KRCL is a non-commercial, independent, public radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah. The station is owned by the Community Wireless of Utah Foundation. Its transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains, west of Salt Lake City, and its studios are in Sugar House.

History

KRCL (90.9 FM) is a non-commercial, independent, community radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah. The station is owned and operated by Community Wireless of Salt Lake City, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization.

KRCL went on the air in April 1972 as an experimental 10-watt station called KWCR, broadcasting from the Westminster College campus in Sugar House. In 1975, the station’s call sign was changed to KRCL and the power was increased to 100 watts. In 1981, KRCL moved to its current location at the University of Utah’s Fort Douglas and began broadcasting at 3,000 watts.

KRCL is currentlystreaming live on the internet 24 hours a day with a focus on independent music not found on commercial radio. The station’s playlist is determined by weekly meetings of volunteer music directors.

KBER

KBER is a classic rock radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah. The station has been on the air since the early 1970s and is known for playing Psychedelic Rock music. KBER is also one of the most popular radio stations in the state of Utah.

History

KBEP (88.1 FM) is a non-commercial public radio station broadcasting an eclectic mix of music including psychedelic rock, classic rock, modern rock, punk, and more. The station is licensed to Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, and is owned by the University of Utah.

The station began broadcasting in 2010 and originally served as a student-run college radio station. In 2013, the station was acquired by the University of Utah and became a public radio station. KBEP broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
