Williams’ style was a combination of honky-tonk, folk, blues, and gospel. He had a string of hit songs in the 1940s and 1950s, including “Cold, Cold Heart,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and “Jambalaya (On the Bayou).” Williams died of a heart attack at the age of 29. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961.
Patsy Cline
Patsy Cline (September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963) was an American country music singer and part of the Nashville sound during the late 1950s and early 1960s. She successfully “crossed over” to pop music with hits such as “Crazy” and became one of the most influential, successful and acclaimed vocalists of the 20th century. Cline was known for her rich tone, emotionally expressive and bold contralto voice. Along with Kitty Wells, she helped pave the way for women as headliners in the country music industry.
Born Virginia Patterson Hensley in Winchester, Virginia, Cline was one of eight children. She was known as Ginny growing up and began singing spectacles at local talent shows with her brother Sam at a young age. When she was 16 years old, she started performing with Bill Peer’s Melody Boys Quartet at local clubs in Winchester where she would often sing songs made popular by other women country singers such as Kitty Wells and Hank Williams Sr. It was around this time that she met a young man named Johnny Pennell who gave her the nickname “Patsy” after absence to signify his affection for her.
Cline began working as a solo artist in 1957 and released her first single “A Church, A Courtroom And Then Goodbye” on December 3 that year. She then married Gerald Cline on February 13, 1957 and gave birth to their first child Julie on July 1, 1957.

His genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This versatility made him difficult to categorize, and much of his music defied existing pop music conventions and appealed to the burgeoning counterculture in the 1960s.

Willie Nelson is an American musician, singer, songwriter, actor, and activist. The son of a farmer and a housewife, he was born on April 29, 1933, in Abbott, Texas. He left home at the age of sixteen and worked as a dishwasher, musician, and farmhand before landing his first recording contract in 1960. His first hit song, “Crazy,” was released in 1961.
