In 2007, a new subgenre of heavy metal music, metalcore, began to gain popularity. Metalcore is a combination of hardcore punk and heavy metal. Additionally, the nu metal band Linkin Park released their third album, which would become one of the best-selling albums of the year.

It became commercially successful in the early 2000s with bands such as Deftones,[10] Limp Bizkit,[11] Staind,[12][13] Linkin Park,[14][15] Papa Roach,[16][17] P.O.D.,[18][19][20], Adema[21], Godsmack[22], Papa Roach, nonpoint[23], Taproot,[24]Static-X[25], Sevendust[26], Creed[27], Chevelle,[28] Blindspotting[29]).
