What were the best hip hop songs of 2008? This blog will take a look at some of the most popular songs of the year and what made them so great.

Introduction

The best hip hop songs of 2008 were a diverse bunch, with hits coming from all corners of the genre. There were party anthems, club bangers, and street anthems, as well as more introspective tracks that examined the state of hip hop. 2008 was a great year for hip hop, and these are the songs that made it great.

Best Hip Hop Songs of 2008

2008 was a big year for hip hop. A lot of great songs were released, and it was hard to narrow it down to just 10. But we did it, and here are the best hip hop songs of 2008.

“Lollipop” – Lil Wayne

“Lollipop” is a single by American rapper Lil Wayne featuring Static Major. It was released on March 13, 2008 as the lead single from Lil Wayne’s sixth studio album, Tha Carter III. “Lollipop” peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Lil Wayne’s second number-one single on that chart; it also reached the top ten in several other countries. The song was nominated for multiple awards, including Grammys for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance. In June 2008, “Lollipop” was ranked at #24 on MTV’s countdown of the 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.

The music video was directed by Kahlee and David Richardson. It features Lil Wayne in a set made to resemble Heaven, as well as scenes inside of a mansion and with cars. At one point in the video, there are two women that appear to be naked inside of a large tube that is filled with water; it is unknown whether or not they are actually naked or not, due to their strategic positioning within the tube. The song won Best Rap Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

“A Milli” – Lil Wayne

“A Milli” is a song by American rapper Lil Wayne. It was released on October 28, 2008, as the lead single from his sixth studio album Tha Carter III (2008). The track was produced by American record producer Bangladesh, who helped write the song with Lil Wayne. “A Milli” peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, becoming one of Wayne’s most successful singles.

The song contains a sample of “Ain’t No Half Steppin'” (1988) by Big Daddy Kane, which Lil Wayne inserts his own verses over. “A Milli” was nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song. In 2008, it won two BET Hip Hop Awards for Best Single of the Year and Best Hip Hop Video of the Year. The music video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

“Put On” – Young Jeezy

Released in September of 2008, “Put On” was the lead single from Young Jeezy’s third studio album, The Recession. The song features Kanye West, and was produced by Drumma Boy.

“Put On” peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it Young Jeezy’s highest charting single at the time. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

“Heartless” – Kanye West

“Heartless” is a song by American hip hop artist Kanye West, released on November 4, 2008 digitally as the lead single from his fourth studio album, 808s & Heartbreak. Written prior to his hospitalization and thinning hair as a result of his worsening mental state, the song features vocal samples of “Hey Mama” and “Never Can Say Goodbye”.

The connective tissue between these two entities is the melancholy that both songs communicate. Seemingly disparate, the original Hey Mama is an ode to Mrs. West’s boundless love and support, while the 1974 track Never Can Say Goodbye is a break-up song with an undercurrent of hope, each finding new relevance in the mess that Kanye had made of his life following the death of his mother and the end of his engagement.

“Money In The Bank” – Lil Wayne

“Money In The Bank” is a song by American rapper Lil Wayne, released on June 10, 2008, by Cash Money and Universal Motown. It was included as the twelfth track on his sixth studio album, Tha Carter III (2008).

Conclusion

In conclusion, the best hip hop songs of 2008 were:
