2012 was a great year for heavy metal music, with many great albums released by metal bands. In this article, we will be discussing the best metal albums of 2012. We will be looking at the albums that were the most popular, the ones that received the most critical acclaim, and the ones that are simply the best.

Gojira- L’Enfant Sauvage

As far as pure, unadulterated heavy metal goes, there were few albums released in 2012 that could top Gojira’s L’Enfant Sauvage. The French quartet’s fifth studio album is a tour de force of modern metal, seamlessly blending elements of death, thrash, and progressive metal into a sound that is equal parts brutal and beautiful. L’Enfant Sauvage is an absolute must-hear for any fan of heavy music.

Lamb of God- Resolution

Lamb of God’s seventh studio album Resolution is the best heavy metal album of 2012. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and received critical acclaim from music critics. Lamb of God’salbum is a return to form for the band, with guitarist Mark Morton stating that the album was “reinvigorating” and “a fresh start”. Vocalist Randy Blythe also stated that the album is “darker and heavier” than previous albums.

Metallica- Hardwired… to Self-Destruct

Metallica released their highly anticipated album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct on November 18, 2016. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making it their sixth consecutive album to do so. Hardwired… to Self-Destruct is a return to form for the metal legends, and is sure to please longtime fans as well as newcomers to the band.

“Ember”- Architects

“Ember”- Architects
released in 2018, is a metalcore song by the British band Architects. The song is included on the band’s ninth studio album, Holy Hell. “Ember” was released to digital outlets on 18 August 2018 as the third single from Holy Hell. The song was written by Architects members Sam Carter and Dan Searle, produced by Josh Middleton and programmed by Tom Dennis. “Ember” is a metalcore song that contains elements of progressive metal and post-hardcore.
Lyrically, the song is about hope and brotherhood, with Carter saying it’s “about being there for somebody when they need you most and not giving up on them.”

“Moth Into Flame” Metallica

Released in 2016, Moth Into Flame was one of the most popular heavy metal songs of the year. The song was released as a single from the album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, and it quickly rose to the top of the charts.

Slayer

Slayer is an American metal band from Huntington Park, California. The band was founded in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo. Slayer rose to fame with their 1986 release Reign in Blood, and is credited as one of the big four thrash metal bands, along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Since its debut album in 1983, the band has released nine studio albums, two live albums, a box set, six music videos, two extended plays and a cover album. Slayer has received five Grammy nominations, winning one in 2007 for the song “Eyes of the Insane” and one in 2008 for “Final Six”. Hanneman and King are the only members of Slayer to appear on every album; Lombardo’s tenure with the band ended abruptly in early 2013 due to an issue with management.

Megadeth

Megadeth is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine’s dismissal from Metallica. A pioneer of the American thrash metal scene, the band is credited as one of the genre’s “big four” with Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer; responsible for its development and popularization. Megadeth plays in a technical style, featuring fast rhythm sections and complex arrangements. They have sold over 38 million records worldwide, earned platinum certification in the United States for five of their fifteen studio albums, and won twelve Grammy Awards.

Anthrax

In 2012, Anthrax performed some of the best live heavy metal music. Their performances were characterized by high energy and intense musicianship. The band was able to get the crowd engaged and involved in the music. They had great stage presence and knew how to work a crowd. Overall, it was an amazing concert experience.
