Hellfest

Hellfest, also called Hellfest Summer Open Air, is a French music festival specializing in heavy metal, held annually in June in Clisson in Loire-Atlantique. Its high attendance makes it one of the greatest French music festivals. It is also one of the biggest festivals of Europe. Particularly thanks to the presence of international bands on the bill, each edition attracts around 180,000 spectators from France but also from Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain and even further.

The festival was created in 2006 by Ben Barbaud, a metal fan who had previously organized concerts in Clisson and Nantes. Since its inception, the festival has had several locations before settling in the city of Clisson. The first two editions were held in June 2006 and 2007 on about 15 hectares rented near to the city center. For 2008 onwards it found a permanent home at The Val de Moine Sports Centre (Centre nautique et sportif), located just outside Clisson; 17 hectares of land were acquired after having used the location for both parking and camping previously.
