Alice in Chains- Man in the Box

Alice in Chains- Man in the Box with Lyrics
“Man in the box” is a song by the American rock band Alice in Chains, appearing as the third track on their debut album, Facelift (1990), and was released as a single in early 1991. The song was written by Jerry Cantrell and vocalist Layne Staley.

The lyrics describe alienation, despair and being trapped. Staley’s haunting vocal delivery, Cantrell’s signature riffing, and Sean Kinney’s drumming combine to create one of Alice in Chains’ signature songs. Staley’s use of Soprano saxophones (played by Mike Inez) at the end of the song has become one of his trademarks.

Pearl Jam- Even Flow

From their 1991 debut album Ten, Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” was one of the band’s first big hits. The song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and helped propel the album to diamond status.

Soundgarden- Black Hole Sun

Soundgarden is one of the most influential grunge bands of all time. After forming in 1984, the Seattle-based band released their debut album, Ultramega OK, in 1988 to critical acclaim. They followed that up with 1989’s Louder Than Love, which reached number one on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.

In 1991, Soundgarden released their breakthrough album, Badmotorfinger. The album featured the singles “Rusty Cage” and “Outshined,” both of which received heavy rotation on MTV and radio. Badmotorfinger was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance.

Soundgarden’s fourth album, Superunknown, was released in 1994 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album featured the singles “Spoonman,” “Black Hole Sun,” and “My Wave.” Superunknown went on to win two Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album.

In 1996, Soundgarden released their fifth album, Down on the Upside. The album featured the singles “Burden in My Hand” and “Blow Up the Outside World.” Although Down on the Upside was not as commercially successful as Superunknown, it was still well-received by critics.

Following a three-year hiatus, Soundgarden reunited in 2010 and released their sixth studio album, King Animal, in 2012. The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and featured the single “Been Away Too Long.”
