It’s hard to believe that the ’90s was over 20 years ago. These five pop groups dominated the charts and our hearts back then, and they’re still popular today.

Intro

The 1990s was a great decade for pop music. There were a lot of new and talented artists who emerged during this time and have gone on to have very successful careers. However, there are also a lot of lesser-known groups who were just as talented and deserved more attention. Here are five pop music groups from the ’90s you need to know about:

1. Hanson
2. New Kids on the Block
3. Spice Girls
4. Backstreet Boys
5. NSYNC

The Spice Girls

The Spice Girls were a British pop girl group formed in 1994. The group comprised Melanie Brown (“Scary Spice”), Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”), Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”), Melanie Chisholm (“Sporty Spice”), and Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”). They were signed to Virgin Records and released their debut single “Wannabe” in 1996, which hit number one in 37 countries and established them as a global phenomenon. Their debut album, “Spice,” was released later that year and became the best-selling album by a female group in history. The album spawned four more number-one singles — “Say You’ll Be There,” “2 Become 1,” “Mama”/”Who Do You Think You Are,” and “Too Much” — and helped the group achieve success worldwide.

NSYNC

NSYNC was a boy band that was popular in the late 1990s. The group was made up of five members: Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez, and Chris Kirkpatrick. NSYNC’s first album, *Nsync*, was released in 1996 and their second album, *Home for Christmas*, was released in 1998. The group’s third album, *No Strings Attached*, was released in 2000 and went on to sell over 2.4 million copies in the United States. NSYNC’s fourth and final album, *Celebrity*, was released in 2001. The group disbanded in 2002.

The Backstreet Boys

No ’90s music fan’s education is complete without the Backstreet Boys. The group formed in 1993 and quickly rose to fame with their debut album in 1996. The Backstreet Boys were one of the first pop groups to achieve widespread success with a sound that blended pop, R&B, and dance music. They went on to release a string of successful albums throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, cementing their place as one of the most successful pop groups of all time.

Boyz II Men

Boyz II Men is an American R&B group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, best known for their work in the 1990s. The group consists of brothers Nathan Morris and Wanya Morris, along with Shawn Stockman and Michael McCary. The group rose to fame with their debut album, CooleyHighHarmony, which was released in 1991. The album sold more than 9 million copies and spawned the hit singles “Motownphilly” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” The group went on to release a number of other successful albums, including II (1994), Evolution (1997), and Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya (2000). They have sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and have won four Grammy Awards.
