The band has hosted its own music festival, Gigantour, several times since July 2005. Slayer is an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California, formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Slayer’s fast and aggressive musical style made them one of the founding “big four” bands of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. They were ranked at number 85 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The band has sold over 5 million records in the United States alone, and their album Reign in Blood (1986) has been called the greatest thrash metal album of all time.
