Iron Butterfly then went through a series of lineup changes in the 1970s and 1980s; however, the group remained active until 1998, when founding member and bassist Philip Taylor Kramer disappeared mysteriously while driving from Los Angeles to Arizona. His car was found at the bottom of a ravine, but his body was never found.
