What is Heavy Metal Music?
Heavy metal is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. The genre’s lyrics and performance styles are sometimes associated with aggression and machismo.
In 1970, Sabbath’s Paranoid popularized the use of distortion devices in heavy metal to produce a thick “wall of sound” that emphasized low frequency sounds. Later bands further developed the use of feedback effects.
Origins of Heavy Metal Music

The genre’s lyrics and performance styles are sometimes associated with aggression and machismo.
Early heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, though they were often derided by critics. In the mid-1970s Judas Priest helped spur the genre’s evolution by discarding much of its blues influence; Motörhead introduced a punk rock sensibility and an increasing emphasis on speed. Bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal such as Iron Maiden followed in a similar vein. Before the end of the decade, heavy metal fans became known as “metalheads” or “headbangers”.
During the 1980s, glam metal became popular with bands such as Mötley Crüe. Underground scenes produced an array of more aggressive styles: thrash metal broke into the mainstream with bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Exodus; while other extreme subgenres of heavy metal such as death metal and black metal remain subcultural phenomena. Since the mid-1990s popular styles have further expanded outward to embrace alternativemetal (nu metal) which combines elements of multiple genres including industrialmetal rapmetaland gothicmetal; as well as popmetal (with bands such as Linkin Park) which includes elements of hip hopmusic; groovemetal (with bands including Pantera) which incorporates elements funkmusicand industrialmetal;

## Heading:Light Roasts
## Expansion:
Light roasts have a light brown color and are generally preferred for milder coffee varieties. There will be no oil on the surface of these beans because they are not roasted long enough for the oils to break through to the surface. The perfect roast is a personal choice that is sometimes influenced by national preference or geographic location. Within the four color categories, you are likely to find common roasts as listed below. It’s a good idea to ask before you buy. There can be a world of difference between roasts!
