Noriega then formed the death metal supergroup Benediction with members of the British bands Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower. The group released two albums—1996’s “Transcend the Rubicon” and 1998’s “Organized Chaos”—before disbanding in 1999.
Noriega returned to his native Panama in 2000, where he formed the heavy metal band True Theatre. The band released one album—”Faces of Death”—before breaking up in 2003. Noriega has since worked as a solo artist, releasing three albums between 2004 and 2009.
His personal life
In 1987, Noriega married Felicidad Sieiro, a Spanish businesswoman. The couple had two daughters, Sandra and Thays. However, the marriage was short-lived and ended in divorce.
In 1996, Noriega married Angélica Cruz, his longtime companion. The couple have a son together, Emiliano.
Now in his 60s, Noriega currently resides in Panama City with his wife and son.

Manuel Noriega, also known as “Pineapple Face” and “The Butcher of Panama”, was a Panamanian dictator, druglord, and military dictator. He was overthrown in 1989 during the United States invasion of Panama. After his ousting from power, he became a musician and released several metal albums.
Noriega was born in Panama City, Panama on February 11, 1934. He was the eighth child of nine children born to Jorge Luis Noriega Mesa and Maria Clementina Mendoza Davis. His father was a primary school teacher and his mother was a housewife. He grew up in a poor neighborhood and his family was unable to afford to send him to college. Instead, he joined the National Guard of Panama in 1952 at the age of 18.
He rose through the ranks quickly, becoming a General by the age of 36. In 1983, he became the de facto ruler of Panama after orchestrating a coup d’etat against President Arnulfo Arias Madrid. He established himself as a military dictator and began to amass wealth through corruption and drug trafficking. In 1988, he was indicted by two U.S. federal grand juries on charges of drug trafficking, racketeering, and money laundering. The following year, he was overthrown by the United States during Operation Just Cause.
After his ousting from power, Noriega fled to France where he was granted asylum. In 2011, he returned to Panama to serve out a 20-year prison sentence for crimes committed during his rule. He was released on parole in 2017 due to poor health and died on May 29, 2017 at the age of 83.
Noriega began playing music while incarcerated in France in the 1990s. He started out playing acoustic guitar but later switched to electric guitar when he formed a heavier metal band called Boot Camp with fellow inmates Jean-Michel Basquiat and Richard Nixon (not the former US President). The band’s first album, “Please Please Please”, was released in 1996 to critical acclaim. It featured Noriega’s growling vocals and heavy guitar riffs backed by Basquiat’s drumming and Nixon’s bass playing.
Noriega continued his musical career after his release from prison, releasing several more albums with Boot Camp as well as two solo albums: “The Asshole Chronicles: Vol 1” (2017) and “The Asshole Chronicles: Vol 2” (2018).
