Keith Lionel Urban (born October 26, 1967) is a New Zealand-born Australian singer, songwriter and record producer well known for his work in country music. In 1991, he released a self-titled debut album and charted four singles in Australia before moving to the United States the following year. He found work as a session guitarist before starting a solo career in 1999 with the release of a self-titled album. The album’s fourth single, “But for the Grace of God”, peaked at number on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and helped propel him into the mainstream country music industry.
In 2005, Urban was named Entertainer of the Year by both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. That same year, he released his second American album titled Be Here, which produced his first American number one hit “Better Life” as well as three more singles. A greatest hits package followed in late 2007 before he signed to Capitol Nashville in early 2008 and released his third American album titled defying gravity.
