New Artist of the Year

The New Artist of the Year award is one of the most prestigious awards given out at the Country Music Awards. This year, the award went to Luke Combs, who beat out some stiff competition from the likes of Ashley McBryde, Brett Young, Midland, and Mitchell Tenpenny. Combs is a relative newcomer to the country music scene, but he’s already made a big impact with his debut album, This One’s for You.

Album of the Year

“ Torn between two kinds of love, one a sweet surrender to something good and right and the other wild and free like the wind blows. I’m pulled apart by two strong emotions. I’m trying to be patient but these feelings are taking over me.” These are the opening lyrics of Kacey Musgraves’ hit single, “Slow Burn.” The song is an ode to being patient in relationships and taking the time to let things happen naturally. It’s a perfect example of the type of introspective songwriting that has made Musgraves one of the most respected artists in country music.

Musgraves’ album, Golden Hour, won Album of the Year at the 2019 Country Music Association Awards. The album is a collection of songs about love, loss, and self-discovery. Golden Hour was praised for its innovative production and Musgraves’ vulnerable songwriting.

This is Musgraves’ second Album of the Year award from the Country Music Association. She won her first award in 2013 for her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park.
