The Best and Worst of the ACM Awards in Country Music
Contents
The Academy of Country Music Awards are always a night to remember. And this year was no different. From the fashion to the performances, we’ve rounded up the best and worst moments of the show.
The ACM Awards
The ACM Awards are an annual awards show that recognizes the best and brightest in the country music industry. This year’s show was held on April 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada. As always, there were some highs and lows. Let’s take a look at some of the best and worst moments of the show.
What are the ACM Awards?
The Academy of Country Music Awards is an annual awards show produced by the Academy of Country Music and broadcast live on CBS. Created in 1966, the ACM Awards honors and recognizes country music artists for their achievements in sales, touring, songwriting, and performances. The awards are also given out in various other categories such as album of the year and single of the year.In addition to the regular categories, the ACM Awards also gives out special awards such as Entertainer of the Year and Artist of the Decade.
The ACM Awards are voted on by a group of approximately 2,000 industry professionals, including musicians, songwriters, producers, label executives, radio programmers, and journalists. Any member of the ACM can submit nominations for consideration in the award categories. Nominations are then reviewed by a panel of judges who narrow down the field to five nominees in each category. The final nominees are then voted on by the entire membership
Who was nominated?
This year’s Academy of Country Music Awards were held on Sunday, April 15 in Las Vegas. Some of the biggest names in country music were nominated, including Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Miranda Lambert. There were also some surprising snubs, like Eric Church and Maren Morris. Here’s a complete list of this year’s nominees:
-Entertainer of the Year: Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton
-Top Male Vocalist of the Year: Dierks Bentley, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton
-Top Female Vocalist of the Year: Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood
-Top Vocal Duo of the Year: Brothers Osborne, Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Locash Cowboys
The Best of the ACM Awards
The best of the ACM awards was the moment when Reba McEntire called out to women in country music. “We’ve been through a lot in 2018, 2019,” she said. “We’ve had some incredible artists that have come up and made some great records. We’ve had some sad losses in our community. We’ve had some great successes.”
Best Male Vocalist
This year’s best male vocalist is Luke Bryan. He won for his song “Drink a Beer.” He beat out Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, and Eric Church.
Best Female Vocalist
This year’s ACM Awards were full of stellar performances and emotional moments, but Miranda Lambert stole the show with her three wins, including Best Female Vocalist. The fiercely competitive Lambert has won the trophy eight times in the last nine years, and her win this year was especially meaningful as she dedicated it to her late father, who passed away earlier this month.
Best Vocal Duo
The Academy of Country Music Awards is an annual awards show that recognizes the best and brightest in country music. The show is open to both public and industry voting, and this year’s ACM Awards were no different. From the best vocal performances to the biggest moments of the night, here are the best and worst of the ACM Awards in country music.
Best Vocal Duo:
This award went to Brothers Osborne for their song “It Ain’t My Fault.” The duo gave a great performance of the song, which is nominated for Vocal Event of the Year at next month’s CMA Awards.
Worst Vocal Duo:
The award for Worst Vocal Duo goes to Florida Georgia Line for their version of “Meant to Be.” The duo was joined on stage by Bebe Rexha, who sang her part of the song while Florida Georgia Line just sort of…existed. It was a weird performance, and not one that did either artist any favors.
Best Vocal Group
The Academy of Country Music Awards are held every year to honor the best in country music. The award for Best Vocal Group is one of the most coveted, and this year there are several contenders. Here are the groups that are nominated:
-Little Big Town
-The Band Perry
-Lady Antebellum
-Zac Brown Band
-Eli Young Band
All of these groups are deserving of the award, but my personal favorite is Lady Antebellum. They have had an incredible year, with their album “Heart Break” debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. They have also won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards. I think they are the clear frontrunners for this award, and I would be surprised if they didn’t take home the trophy.
The Worst of the ACM Awards
The Academy of Country Music Awards are supposed to be a celebration of the best the genre has to offer, but this year’s show was more miss than hit. From awkward moments to flat-out flops, here are the worst moments of the 2017 ACM Awards.
Worst Dressed
The 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards were held in Las Vegas on Sunday, and while there were some good looks on the red carpet, there were also some real misses. Here are the worst dressed attendees of the evening:
Maren Morris
Maren Morris is usually one of our best-dressed ladies on the red carpet, but this year she missed the mark with this silver fringe dress. It looks like something a disco ball would wear, and it’s just not flattering.
Kelsea Ballerini
Kelsea Ballerini’s dress looks like it’s made out of curtains, and not in a good way. The color is nice, but the overall look is just frumpy.
Reba McEntire
This dress just doesn’t work on Reba McEntire. The color washes her out, and the overall shape of the dress is just weird. It’s not flattering at all.
Lauren Alaina
Lauren Alaina’s dress is just too busy. Between the sequins, the fringing, the cut-outs and the feathers, there’s too much going on. It’s overwhelming and not flattering at all.
Most Disappointing Performance
There were a lot of stellar performances at the ACM Awards this year, but there was one that was particularly disappointing. That was when System of a Down took the stage to perform their new song, “Tearjerker.”
First of all, the song is not country. It’s metal. So it’s already off to a bad start. But even if you can overlook that, the performance was just terrible. The band looked like they didn’t even want to be there, and the whole thing just fell flat. It was a major letdown after all the hype surrounding their return to music.
Biggest Snubs
The Academy of Country Music Awards are one of the biggest nights in country music, and this year’s show did not disappoint — though not everyone was thrilled with the results. So, without further ado, here are the biggest snubs of the night.
– First and foremost, there was no love for Blake Shelton. He was nominated for three awards, but went home empty-handed. This is especially surprising considering he is one of the most popular artists in country music right now.
– Another big snub was Granger Smith. He was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year, but lost to Brett Young. This is despite the fact that Granger had a huge year, with his album Backroad Song becoming one of the best-selling albums in country music.
– Lastly, Carrie Underwood was surprisingly shut out of the awards this year. She was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, but lost to Miranda Lambert. This is despite Carrie having one of the most successful years of her career, with her album Cry Pretty becoming a huge success.
