The show
The Country Music Hall of Fame Awards are an annual event that celebrates the artists who have made significant contributions to the genre. This year, the awards will be presented at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The event will be hosted by Reba McEntire and will feature performances by some of the biggest names in country music.
What to expect
Packed with country music’s biggest stars, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Awards show is one of the most prestigious events in country music. The evening will honor this year’s Hall of Fame inductees – Brooks & Dunn, Hank Williams Jr., and Jimmy Dean – as well as three individuals who have made significant contributions to the living history of country music: BMI Icon Award recipient Reba McEntire, Merle Kilgore Award recipient Troy Gentry, and Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award recipient Jerry Reed.
The show is produced by the Country Music Association and dick clark productions and will air live on ABC at 8|7c from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

The history
The Country Music Association Awards are tonight, and for the first time in the show’s 54-year history, the Country Music Hall of Fame Awards will be presented during the live telecast. The show will air live on CBS from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 8pm ET.
The first awards
The first awards show was held in 1967 and was called the Cavalcade of Country Music Awards. It was held in Nashville, Tennessee and had several big names in country music already. The next year, it was renamed the Country Music Association Awards, or CMA Awards for short, and became an annual event.
In 1970, the awards show expanded to two nights due to popular demand and moved to a new venue, the Grand Ole Opry House. The show continued to grow in popularity throughout the years, eventually moving to larger venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York City and Hollywood’s Universal Amphitheatre.
The CMA Awards is now one of country music’s biggest nights, with A-list celebrities attending and performing at the show every year. If you’re a fan of country music, be sure to tune in tonight to catch all the action!
The awardees

The new nominees
The future of country music was on full display at the Country Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday night (Oct. 20), as three newer acts were welcomed into the genre’s most esteemed organization. Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn and Jerry Jeff Walker were feted with the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a country artist, and each made a mark on the evening in his own way.
Jackson, who was inducted by Wayne Newton, gave an emotional speech in which he spoke about how he never dreamed he would be standing on that stage. “I remember being a little boy in Newnan, Georgia, laying in my bed at night with my cousin Eddie, who lived next door,” he said. “We would talk about what we wanted to do when we grew up. And I said, ‘I want to play guitar and sing like Hank Williams.’ And he said, ‘I want to be an astronaut.’ Neither one of us got to do exactly what we wanted to do, but we both ended up in Nashville.”
Brooks & Dunn were inducted by Reba McEntire, with whom they had one of the most successful duos in country music history. The two recalled how they first met at a songwriters’ meeting and didn’t hit it off immediately but eventually realized they had a musical connection. They went on to have 26 No. 1 hits over the course of their career.
Walker was inducted by his friend and collaborator Lyle Lovett, who spoke about how Walker had inspired him early on in his career. “He’s one of those artists who’s made such an impression on other songwriters,” Lovett said. “You hear his songs and you go, ‘Well, I could never write anything like that,’ but you go home and try.”
