Miles Davis- “Rubberband”

Miles Davis’ posthumous album “Rubberband” is set to be released on September 6th, 2019. “Rubberband” is a collection of previously unreleased tracks that were recorded in 1986, during Davis’ electric period. The album was produced by Davis’ nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr., and features contributions from Herbie Hancock, Bernard Wright, Robert Irving III, and Adam Holzman.

Gregory Porter- “All Rise”

Gregory Porter’s much-anticipated sixth album All Rise arrives on Blue Note Records. All Rise was produced by Troy Miller, who has also worked with Michael Kiwanuka, Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula and John Legend. It features Porter’s band The backup singers Lisa Fischer and Cyrille Aimée.

The first single from the album, ” Conqueror,” is a duet with British soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae. Critics are calling it one of the best tracks of 2020. The album also includes the title track “All Rise,” which was co-written by Gregory Porter and Grammy-winning songwriter Laura Mvula.

Kamasi Washington- “Heaven and Earth”

Kamasi Washington’s new album, “Heaven and Earth,” is his second studio album and a double album. It was released on June 22, 2018, on the Young Turks record label. It peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.

The album is a follow-up to Washington’s highly acclaimed debut studio album, “The Epic” (2015). “Heaven and Earth” is a concept album that explores the duality of the universe. The first half of the album, “Earth,” focuses on the struggles of humanity, while the second half, “Heaven,” explores spirituality and liberation.

Washington enlisted a large ensemble of musicians for the album, including string and horn sections, as well as vocalists Patti Austin, Patrice Quinn, and Dwight Trible. He also collaborated with Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Brandon Coleman, Miles Mosley, Tony Austin, Cameron Graves, Ronald Bruner Jr., and drummer Kendrick Scott.

“Heaven and Earth” received positive reviews from critics. The Guardian praised Washington’s ambition and creativity, while The New York Times called it a “gorgeous sprawl of an album.”

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah- “Ancestral Recall”

Grammy award-winning trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah releases his new album “Ancestral Recall” on March 29th. The album is a sonic exploration of Scott’s lineage, drawing inspiration from his ancestors who were enslaved in Louisiana. “Ancestral Recall” is an empowering and timeless album that is sure to speak to listeners of all backgrounds.

Robert Glasper- “Cane Fire”

Pianist and producer Robert Glasper returns with his new album Cane Fire, a tribute to the late greats of jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and soul. The album features an all-star cast of musicians including Miles Mosley, Derrick Hodge, Karriem Riggins, and Common.

Cane Fire is a celebration of the music that has influenced Glasper throughout his career. The album pays homage to the legends of jazz while also incorporating elements of hip-hop, R&B, and soul. The result is a unique and innovative sound that is sure to appeal to fans of all genres.
