The Best of Mozart
Eine kleine Nachtmusik
Eine kleine Nachtmusik is one of Mozart’s best-known works. It was composed in 1787, during the last year of Mozart’s life. The piece is written for a chamber ensemble of two violins, viola, and cello, with a double bass playing colla parte with the cello.
The work is in four movements, all in sonata form:
Allegro – The first movement is in sonata form and is the best known of the four movements. The main theme is introduced by the first violin and is immediately echoed by the second violin. The theme is then taken up by the viola and cello in turn.
Romanza – The second movement is a slow, lyrical theme and variation movement in G major. The main theme is introduced by the first violin and then taken up by the other instruments in turn. There are four variations on the main theme.
Menuetto – The third movement is a minuet and trio, with the minuet in Dmajor and the trio in G major. The minuet is played by the violin 1, viola, and cello, with the double bass playing colla parte with the cello. After a repeat of the minuet section, the trio section is played by violin 1, viola, and cello.
Finale – The fourth movement is in sonata form and is Allegro molto. It features a highly infectious main theme that will stick in your head long after you’ve heard it!
Symphony No. 40
Symphony No. 40, K. 550, is a symphony by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was written in 1788 and is one of only two symphonies he wrote in minor keys (the other being No. 25, composed earlier the same year). The date of completion of the symphony is known exactly, since Mozart in his notes wrote “finished on 25 July 1788 at half past 2 in the morning”.
Turkish March
The Turkish March is one of Mozart’s best-known piano pieces. It was composed in 1783, during Mozart’s stay in Vienna. The piece is written in the key of A Minor and is in 3/4 time. The Turkish March is known for its catchy melody and simple, yet effective, harmony. The piece is often used in commercials and movies, and has been arranged for many different instruments.
The Best of Beethoven

Moonlight Sonata
The “Moonlight” Sonata, by Ludwig van Beethoven, is one of the most popular pieces of classical music ever written. Though it was composed over two hundred years ago, its melodic beauty and emotional power have resonated with audiences through the ages.
The Moonlight Sonata was composed in 1801, during a particularly difficult time in Beethoven’s life. He had begun to lose his hearing, and he was deeply distraught over his impending deafness. In spite of his personal difficulties, Beethoven continued to compose music of extraordinary power and beauty.
The Moonlight Sonata is one of Beethoven’s most beloved works, and it has been performed and recorded by many of the world’s greatest musicians. Whether you’re a classical music fan or simply looking for a peaceful piece of background music, the Moonlight Sonata is sure to delight.
Symphony No. 5
The Symphony No. 5 in C minor of Ludwig van Beethoven, Op. 67, was written between 1804–1808. It is one of the best-known compositions in classical music and one of the most frequently played symphonies. First performed in Vienna’s Theater an der Wien in 1808, the work achieved its prodigious reputation soon afterward. E. T. A. Hoffmann described the symphony as “one of the most important works of the time”.
Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony symbolizes victory over adversity and hope for the future through its iconic four-note “fate” motif, which appears throughout each of the four movements. At first glance, it may seem odd that such a short and simple motif could have such a profound impact on listeners, but it’s precisely because of its brevity and simplicity that it’s so effective. The four notes can be interpreted to represent fate knocking at the door, a cry for help, or even Beethoven himself overcoming his deafness to write this masterpiece.
The Symphony No. 5 is arguably one of Beethoven’s most popular works, and it has been said that it “contains some of the most beautiful music ever written.” If you’re looking for an uplifting piece of classical music to help you relax and get a good night’s sleep, look no further than Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
Für Elise
“Für Elise” (German for “For Elise”) is one of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most popular compositions. It is usually classified as a bagatelle, but it is also sometimes referred to as an Albumblatt. The piece was not published until 1867, 40 years after the composer’s death in 1827.
The earliest manuscript of “Für Elise” was found in the possession of Ludwig van Beethoven’s secretary and biographer Anton Schindler. Schindler claimed that the original score had been torn up by Beethoven in a rage, and that he had pieced it back together from memory.
Beethoven scholar Barry Cooper has argued that the piece is actually an unfinished work, and that the extant version is merely a fragment of what Beethoven had originally intended. Cooper has theorized that the piece was intended as a declaration of love to Elise von der Recke, a married woman with whom Beethoven was infatuated.
“Für Elise” has been adapted for a variety of uses since its composition, including as background music in films and television shows. It remains one of Beethoven’s most popular pieces, and has been endlessly reimagined by performers and arrangers over the years.
