It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 10 years since 2008, but it has! A lot has changed in the music industry since then, but we wanted to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of the best pop songs of that year. From Katy Perry to Bruno Mars, these are the songs that we just can’t get enough of.

“Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis

“Bleeding Love” is a song performed by British singer Leona Lewis, released from her debut studio album, Spirit. The song was written by Jesse McCartney and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and produced by Tedder. It was released in the United Kingdom and Ireland in October 2007 and serviced to radio stations in North America from early 2008. The single got heavy airplay before it was officially released, peaking at number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on the Pop 100 Airplay chart. The song became a sleeper hit, peaking at number one in more than 30 countries. In 2008, “Bleeding Love” won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

The song’s accompanying music video was directed by Jesse Dylan and features model Ben Hullin as Lewis’ love interest. It follows Lewis through various stages of heartache after being left by her lover. The video achieved success on YouTube, topping one million views less than a week after it had been uploaded, becoming one of the most watched videos on the site at that time. It received mixed reviews from critics regarding its length and heavy use of digital effects, but won a MTV Video Music Award for “Video of the Year”. “Bleeding Love” has been certified nine times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), denoting sales of over 2.7 million copies in the UK alone; it has also peaked at number one on various singles charts, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart in the US

“No One” by Alicia Keys

“No One” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys for her third studio album, As I Am (2007). The song was written by Keys, Kerry Brothers, Jr., and George M. Weldon, and produced by Beats International founder Norman Cook. Based on a guitar riff created by Weldon, the song contains elements of R&B and rock. Lyrically, “No One” is about finding strength in a relationship and feeling like you can trust your partner.

The song was released as the lead single from As I Am on September 10, 2007 and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks from December 1, 2007 to January 12, 2008, making it Keys’ fourth chart topper and second consecutive number-one single after “Different Kind of Love Song”. “No One” became Keys’ second longest-running number one single at seven weeks; it tied the record set previously by “Fallin'” (2001). Additionally, the single remained atop of the US Adult Contemporary for five weeks. Internationally, “No One” peaked at number one in several countries including Australia and Canada.

A music video for “No One” was directed by Syndrome who also directed Keys’ previous video for “‘If Ain’t Got You”. In the black-and-white video, Keys plays a violinist being watched over by a guardian angel. The angel is played by actor Chiwetel Ejiofor; Ejiofor and Keys had previously worked together in 2005 film adaptation of Shakespeare’s play Othello where they played Desdemona and Othello respectively.”No One” received positive reviews from critics who complimented its production and Goulding’s vocal performance on the track. It won two Grammy Awards at the 51st Grammy Awards: Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.”No One” remains as one of Alicia Keys’ most successful songs.

“So What” by Pink

“So What” is a song recorded by American singer Pink for her fifth studio album, Funhouse (2008). The song was written by Pink, Max Martin and Shellback, and produced by Martin. It was released as the lead single from the album on August 25, 2008, three months prior to the release of the album. The decision was made to release “So What” as it was one of the favorite songs among fans.

Critical reception toward “So What” was positive before its official release: Bill Lamb of About.com placed the song as Pink’s third-best single, behind “Get the Party Started” (2001) and “Who Knew” (2006), and wrote: “‘So What’ gives Pink another opportunity to strut her stuff vocally.” Scott Rousseau of THEONION Baltimore Sun wrote that “‘So What’ could become one of [Pink’s] signature hits.” Leonard Sparks of TODAY concurred “once again she delivers a racy, catchy pop tune that’s sure to satisfy fans both old and new.” James Montgomery of MTV News described it as a “rock-drenched club banger”, while Gary Graff of The Detroit News called it a “raunchy, stomping jam”.
