Introduction
In popular music, a pop of music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s. The terms “popular music” and “pop music” are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music that is popular and includes many diverse styles. Popular music is eclectic, and often borrows elements from other styles such as urban, dance, rock, Latin, and country.
Pop of music typically consists of a verse-chorus structure and is praised for its catchy hooks and melodies. Many pop songs are written in a 32-bar form, which divides the song into two 16-bar sections; the verse and the chorus. The verse usually has a different melody from the chorus, but they both usually contain the same harmony. Pop songs often have simple, catchy melodies that are easy to sing along to. They also typically have a strong beat that is easy to dance to.
The History of Pop Music
Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s. The Beatles
The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The group, whose best-known line-up comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, are regarded as the most influential band of all time. With a sound rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the group later utilised several genres, ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. Their clothes, styles and statements made them trendsetters in fashion and culture. The Beatles built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over a three-year period from 1960, with Stuart Sutcliffe initially serving as bass player. The core trio of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, together since 1958, went through a succession of drummers—Pete Best was the last to be replaced by Starr in 1962.
The Beatles first met Brian Epstein while playing at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in early 1961. Impressed with their talent and charisma, Epstein became their manager. Within a year he had secured them an audition with EMI’s record label Parlophone; however producer George Martin was not initially impressed with the demo tape he was presented with by Epstein. Martin agreed to sign them to the label on the condition that Best be replaced by another drummer—an option that left Sutcliffe devastated as he had always considered himself part of the group. Best was replaced by Ringo Starr (born Richard Starkey) from another Liverpool group called Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
In 1962 The Beatles released their first single, “Love Me Do”, which entered the British charts at number seventeen; it reached number one two weeks later. With “Please Please Me” (1963), a song written by Lennon–McCartney during a lunch break at EMI Studios that reached no. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic within three months of its UK release,[44] they began what would become an historic run of twenty-two British chart-toppers over four years – an unprecedented feat described by Guinness World Records as “beatlemania”.[45][46] In May 1963 they undertook their first tour outside Britain when they toured Sweden; during this time Sutcliffe chose to leave the band due to poor health brought on by his repeated Hodgkin’s disease attacks.[47] McCartney took over as bass player.[48]
During these early years The Beatles were marketed primarily as a singles band rather than an album act; only eighteen months after Please Please Me had topped the UK charts did their first LP reach number one.[49] In 1964 they made their firstAppearance on The Ed Sullivan Show—an event watched by approximately 73 million viewers in America alone.[50][nb 5] At that time Beatlemania achieved epidemic proportions in many countries around the world;[52][53] among its symptoms were uncontrolled screaming bouts at public appearances,[54][55] hysteria,[56][57] faintness,[58][59][60] tears,[61][62] teenbeat magazine covers,[63][64] switches from black to blonde hair for teenage girls,[65] mass record sales – particularly those of “I Want To Hold Your Hand”, which would become ubiquitous during December 1963 –[66][67].

The Future of Pop Music
Pop music has always been evolving. Every generation has had their own style of pop music. Today’s pop music is very different from the pop music of the past. So, what does the future of pop music hold?
The Rise of EDM
The rise of EDM has been one of the most defining factors in the pop music landscape in recent years. While the genre has been around for decades, it wasn’t until the 2010s that it really started to take off in terms of mainstream popularity. In the last few years, we’ve seen massive hits from artists like Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, and Marshmello, and it doesn’t seem like the trend is slowing down anytime soon.
So what does the future hold for EDM? We can expect to see even more crossover success for EDM artists, as well as an increase in popularity for the genre as a whole. We may also see more experimental sounds and production techniques being used in EDM tracks, as artists continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Whatever happens, one thing is for sure: EDM is here to stay.
The Decline of Pop Music?
There has been much discussion recently about the state of pop music and whether it is in decline. While it is true that sales of physical CDs and downloads have decreased in recent years, this has been offset by the increasing popularity of streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. In fact, according to the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), global recorded music revenue actually rose by 5.9% in 2018 thanks to the growth of streaming.
So, while it is true that the pop music industry is changing, it is far from being in decline. In fact, with more people than ever before listening to pop music, it would seem that the future of pop is looking bright.
