After taking some time off to raise her daughter, Trevi returned to the studio to record her fourth album, 1997’s Deseo Carnal(“Carnal Desire”). Trevi made headlines again in 2000 when she was arrested alongside fellow Mexican singer Sergio Gómez (of Kumbia Kings fame) on charges of kidnapping and corruption of minors; both were accused of luring young women into their homes with promises of stardom before subjecting them to physical and sexual abuse. After spending nearly three years in jail awaiting trial (during which time she gave birth to son José Antonio), Trevi was found guilty on five counts of corruption of minors and sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison; Gómez was acquitted of all charges.
