The American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album is an award presented at the American Music Awards. It was first awarded in 2003 and has been given out annually since then. The award is given to the artist with the most votes as determined by the public.
In 2003, the award was presented to Nelly for his album Nellyville. Nelly’s album Earthquake Weather was also nominated that year but lost to Nellyville.
In 2004, the award was presented to Outkast for their album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. This was Outkast’s second consecutive win in this category and third overall.
In 2005, the award was presented to Eminem for his album Encore. This was Eminem’s second consecutive win in this category and fourth overall.
In 2006, the award was presented to T.I. for his album King. This was T.I.’s first win in this category.
In 2007, the award was presented to Kanye West for his album Graduation. This was Kanye West’s second consecutive win in this category and third overall.
In 2008, the award was presented to Lil Wayne for his album Tha Carter III. This was Lil Wayne’s first win in this category.
In 2009, the award was presented to Jay-Z for his album The Blueprint 3. This was Jay-Z’s fourth consecutive win in this category and fifth overall. He became the first artist to ever win four times in a row in this category.
In 2010, the award was not presented due to a lack of nominations.”

Criteria for eligibility
To be eligible for this award, an album must have been released within the eligibility period and must have had at least four weeks of commercial release prior to the eligibility period. For the 52nd awards show (2014), the eligibility period ran from October 2013 to September 2014.

History
The American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist has been awarded since 2001. Years reflect the year in which the awards were presented, for works released in the previous year (until 2003 onward when awards were handed out on November of the same year).
In 2001 and 2002, the award was titled Favorite Male Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. Marshmello is the only artist to win the award twice. Eminem has won the most awards in this category, with three wins. Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne and Post Malone have each won the award once. Drake is the most nominated artist in this category without a win, with five unsuccessful nominations.
All four of Eminem’s wins (in 2002, 2010 and 2011) came when he was also nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, making him the only rapper to win both gender-specific rap awards in the same year; he tied Michael Jackson’s record of three wins in a row from 1991 to 1993. Iggy Azalea became only the second female rapper to be nominated for this award when she received a nomination in 2014; Lauryn Hill held this distinction when she was nominated in 1998 and 1999 (when she won), but no female rappers were nominated from 2000 until 2013 inclusive. Azalea was also nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist that year, becoming only the third rapper ever (after Jackson and Hill) to be nominated for both gender-specific pop/rock awards in a single year; Jackson was again nominated twice in 1992 (when he won both awards), but no rapper has been so honored since then until Cardi B’s victories at the 2018 ceremony (winning Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and being nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist).
