It’s been a great year for hip hop music, with a lot of new artists making their debut and established artists dropping new albums. Let’s take a look at some of the best hip hop music of 2015.

J. Cole – “G.O.M.D.”

In case you didn’t know, Jermaine Cole is one of the best rappers alive. The North Carolina wordsmith has a knack for painting idyllic pictures with his raps, and “G.O.M.D.” is yet another great example of that. The track, which serves as the lead single from Cole’s upcoming albumForest Hills Drive: Homecoming, is a ode to Cole’s hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Over some soulful production from Grammy-winning producer 9th Wonder, Cole spits some fire bars about growing up in the South and how far he’s come since then. “G.O.M.D.” is a great reintroduction to Cole for those who may have slept on him in the past, and it also serves as a reminder of why he’s one of the best rappers in the game today.

Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” was one of the most talked-about songs of 2015, and for good reason. The track, which originally appeared on Lamar’s album To Pimp a Butterfly, became an anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement, and was performed at protests and rallies across the country. Lamar’s powerful lyrics and catchy hook made “Alright” one of the year’s best hip hop tracks.

Chance the Rapper – “Angels”

On “Angels,” Chance the Rapper is rapping about the stress of making it in the music industry, and how his faith keeps him going. He’s also talking about how he’s one of the good guys in the business, which is a refreshing change from all the talk of rappers being thugs and gangsters.

Big Sean – “Blessings”

Big Sean’s “Blessings” is one of the best new hip hop songs of 2015. The track features Drake and Kanye West, two of the biggest names in the rap game, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. The beat is infectious, the rapping is top-notch, and the overall song is just really enjoyable. If you’re a fan of hip hop, or even just good music in general, “Blessings” is definitely worth a listen.

Fetty Wap – “Trap Queen”
