The Fayetteville, North Carolina rapper proved that he was at the top of his game with his third studio album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. The album was a commercial and critical success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and selling over one million copies in the United States. It was also nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards.
But what makes 2014 Forest Hills Drive stand out is its lyrical content. J. Cole addresses a variety of topics on the album, from his upbringing in a poverty-ridden neighborhood to confronting his fears and insecurities. He also puts a microscope on society, shining a light on issues like racism, police brutality, and materialism. It’s an incredibly introspective album that allows listeners to see J. Each year, we countdown the best workout hip hop songs of the year. It’s become a tradition here at DMP, and our annual list is eagerly anticipated by our readers. This year was no different, with some excellent music released in 2014.
As we compiled our list, we also took a look at the album artwork for each of the albums that made our countdown. Some artists put a lot of thought into their album artwork, while others seem to neglect this important aspect of their release.
We’ve decided to highlight some of the best album artwork from the past year, starting with Logic’s Under Pressure. The cover art for this album is simple but effective, featuring a close-up of Logic’s face with the album title written across his forehead in white letters. The black and white color scheme works well, and the overall effect is striking and eye-catching.
