Music Videos
It’s no secret that Hip Hop and R&B music are some of the most popular genres today. And with good reason – the music is catchy, the beats are fresh, and the artists are always pushing the envelope. But what really makes these genres so popular is the music videos.
Hip Hop
Hip hop is a style of music that arose in the late 1970s in New York City, United States. It is defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching with turntables, break dancing, and graffiti writing. Hip hop music has played a significant role in the global spread of New York City’s hip hop culture.
Musically, hip hop is characterized by a rhythmic style that is based on an arrangement of drum breaks and grooves, often sampled from earlier records. This use of sampling has been extensively criticized as plagiarism. The scratch technique used by DJs to create new rhythms from existing recordings also brought about a new type of musical composition.
Hip hop videos are musical clips that feature hip hop artists performing their latest songs. These videos are generally created by the artists themselves or by music video directors hired by the artists or their record labels. Hip hop videos are typically released to promote the artist’s latest single or album release, and are usually aired on MTV and other music-related television channels.
R&B
R&B music videos are soulful, passionate, and often tell a story. They usually feature attractive people lip-syncing or singing along to the lyrics of the song. The settings are often glamorous, and the overall tone is sensual and romantic. For these reasons, R&B music videos are some of the most popular on YouTube.
Some of the most popular R&B music videos include “The Weeknd – Wicked Games,” “Usher – Climax,” “Aaliyah – Try Again,” “Chris Brown – Forever,” and “Beyoncé – Drunk in Love.” These videos have all been viewed millions of times and have helped to launch the careers of many young artists. If you’re a fan of R&B music, then you’re sure to enjoy watching these music videos.
Featured Artists
There are many up and coming Hip Hop and R&B artists that are making a name for themselves in the music industry. In this section, we will feature some of these artists and their music.
Hip Hop
Hip hop is a genre of music that arose out of African American and Latino American communities in the 1970s. It consists of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Hip hop music has been a powerful force in the music industry for decades, with artists such as Tupac, Jay-Z, and Kendrick Lamar becoming household names. In recent years, hip hop has become more mainstream, with artists like Drake and Cardi B crossing over into the pop charts.
R&B
R&B, short for rhythm and blues, is a genre of popular music that originated in African-American communities in the 1940s. The term was originally used by record companies to describe recordings marketed predominantly to urban African Americans, at a time when “urbane, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat” was becoming more popular. In the 2010s, R&B incorporates a range of genres originating from a diversity of cultures and musical traditions worldwide.
Today’s R&B has evolved away from the classic sound that dominated the genre in its early days. That sound was typified by artists such as Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. It was characterized by its use of gospel-music aesthetics, doo-wop style singing, and call-and-response patterns. Over time, it developed into something that incorporated aspects of pop music and Soul music. What we think of as classic R&B today began to take shape in the 1960s and ’70s with artists such as Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.

Hip Hop
Hip hop is a genre of music that originated in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s. It consists of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching with turntables, break dancing, and graffiti writing. Other elements include sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing. While often used to refer solely to rapping, “hip hop” more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture. The term hip hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music, though rapping is not a required component of hip hop music; the genre may also incorporate other elements of hip hop culture, including DJing and scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks.
Hip hop arose during the 1970s when block parties became popular in New York City among African-American youth residing in the Bronx. By 1975 block parties were common in New York City’s poorest neighborhoods; DJs played percussive breaks on two turntables while another person mixed them together on a mixing console arm placed above the turntables. Heroin use was rampant among participants at these parties which served as social events bringing together inner-city youths from diverse backgrounds
R&B
R&B, or Rhythm and Blues, is a genre of music that originated in the 1940s with African American artists. The term R&B was first used by record companies in 1949 to describe a new style of music that was influenced by jazz, gospel, and blues. R&B quickly became popular with both black and white audiences, and by the 1950s it was one of the most popular genres of music in the United States.
In the 1960s, R&B evolved into soul music, which was characterized by its use of funk and disco rhythms. Soul music became hugely popular in the 1970s with artists like Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder. In the 1980s and 1990s, R&B began to branch out into different subgenres, such as new jack swing, urban contemporary, and neo-soul. Today, R&B is one of the most popular genres of music in the world.
Some of the biggest names in R&B today include Beyonce, Rihanna, Usher, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Trey Songz, and Justin Timberlake. If you’re a fan of R&B music, then check out our concert and tour listings to find out when your favorite artists will be performing near you!
