When did hip hop music come out? This is a question that often gets asked. The answer is that hip hop music emerged in the 1970s.

Origins of Hip Hop

The forerunner to what would eventually become hip hop music was African American and Jamaican music of the late 1960s and early 1970s. James Brown, The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron, andAretha Franklin were among the earliest creators of what would become hip hop. At block parties in Bronx, New York during the 1970s, people would gather to listen to music and dance. These parties became so popular that they began to spread to other areas of the city.

1970s Bronx

The first Hip Hop was a music created in the 1970s in the Bronx. This music was made to make people move and it quickly spread throughout the boroughs of New York City. The people who created Hip Hop were DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa.

DJ Kool Herc

The first Hip Hop records were created in the early 1970s by DJs like DJ Kool Herc, who combined elements of Funk, Soul, and Reggae to create a new sound. Herc’s style ofDJing, which involved using two turntables to extend the length of a song’s drum break, was soon adopted by other DJs. This new style of music quickly spread throughout the Bronx and other parts of New York City, and soon became known as “Hip Hop.”

Afrika Bambaataa

Hip hop music originated in the late 1960s in the Bronx, New York City. It was created by African American and Latino youth who were looking for a way to express themselves without violence. The first hip hop song is believed to be “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang, which was released in 1979.

Afrika Bambaataa is one of the most important figures in the history of hip hop music. He was a DJ and producer who helped to popularize the genre with his unique style of mixing. He is also credited with helping to create the breakbeat, which is an essential element of hip hop.

The Birth of Rap

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five

Rap music emerged from the poor inner city neighborhoods of New York City in the late 1970s. pioneered by artists like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, hip hop music became wildly popular in the 1980s with the release of groundbreaking albums like “Rapper’s Delight” (1979) and “The Message” (1982). By the 1990s, rap had become a global phenomenon, with iconic artists like Tupac, Biggie Smalls, and Dr. Dre leading the way. Today, hip hop is one of the most popular genres of music in the world, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Run-DMC

Popular music changed in the 1970s with the rise of disco and the popularity of punk rock. But a new type of music was also emerging in the streets of New York City: hip hop. This new style combined elements of disco, funk, and soul with rhyming lyrics spoken over a simple beat. It was a totally new sound, and it would soon take the world by storm.

The earliest hip hop tracks were created by DJs, who would play records and use a microphone to talk or rap over the music. One of the first and most famous DJs was Kool Herc, who is often credited as being the “father” of hip hop. Herc’s parties became very popular, and soon other DJs began imitating his style.

One of these imitators was Afrika Bambaataa, who started his own hip hop crew called the Zulu Nation. Bambaataa is also credited with coming up with the term “hip hop,” which he used to describe this new form of music. Hip hop quickly spread beyond New York City, with crews springing up in cities all across America.

In the mid-1980s, a group called Run-DMC teamed up with a young producer named Rick Rubin to create some of the most iconic hip hop tracks ever recorded. “Walk This Way,” their collaboration with rock group Aerosmith, helped break down barriers between different types of music and paved the way for rap’s rapid rise to mainstream popularity.

The Golden Age of Hip Hop

Hip Hop music came out in the early 1970s. DJ Kool Herc is credited with being the first to use the term “hip hop”. The first Hip Hop record was released in 1973. The Golden Age of Hip Hop is generally considered to be from 1986 – 1996. This was a time when Hip Hop music was its most creative and innovative.

Public Enemy

Public Enemy was an American hip hop group from Long Island, New York, consisting of Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, Khari Wynn, DJ Lord, and the S1W group. Formed in 1982, they are widely considered to be one of the most influential and controversial hip hop acts of all time. Their debut album Yo! Bum Rush the Show (1987) is considered one of the most important and influential albums in hip hop history. The group’s second album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988) was even more successful, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and receiving widespread critical acclaim.

N.W.A.

N.W.A is an American hip hop group from Compton, California, that achieved notoriety in the late 1980s and early 1990s for their hardcore gangsta rap style. The group’s debut album, Straight Outta Compton, released on August 8, 1988, was groundbreaking for its brutally honest portrayal of street life and inner-city violence.

Beastie Boys

Formed in New York City in 1981, the Beastie Boys were composed of Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, Michael “Mike D” Diamond, and Adam “MCA” Yauch. With an initial focus on punk rock, the group eventually shifted its sound and became one of the most successful hip hop groups of all time. They are known for their innovative style, which blended elements of punk, funk, and hip hop.

The Beastie Boys released their debut album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986. The album was an instant success, reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and becoming the first hip hop album to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album’s success was fueled by the singles “Fight for Your Right (To Party)” and “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.”

The Beastie Boys continued to enjoy commercial and critical success in the years that followed. Their subsequent albums include Paul’s Boutique (1989), Check Your Head (1992), Ill Communication (1994), Hello Nasty (1998), To The 5 Boroughs (2004), and The Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (2011). The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

Hip Hop Today

The first Hip Hop music was created in the 1970s by DJ Kool Herc. Hip Hop music has become one of the most popular genres of music today. It is a style of music that is often enjoyed by people of all ages.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is an American hip hop artist from Compton, California. He first gained major attention after the release of his 2010 mixtape, Overly Dedicated. Lamar’s major label debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was released in 2012 to critical acclaim. The record included the hit single “Swimming Pools (Drank)”, and earned Lamar four Grammy nominations at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap Performance for “I”.

Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and record producer from the West Chatham neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Chance the Rapper released his debut mixtape 10 Day in April 2012. He received critical acclaim locally and was featured as one of Complex’s “10 New Chicago Rappers to Watch Out For.”

J. Cole

J. Cole is an American hip hop recording artist, singer, songwriter and record producer from North Carolina. Born on a military base in Germany and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Cole initially gained recognition as a rapper following the release of his debut mixtape, The Come Up, in early 2007. Intent on further pursuing a solo career as a rapper, he went on to release two additional mixtapes after signing to Jay Z’s Roc Nation imprint in 2009. His debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story was released in 2011 to commercial and critical success. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His next two releases, 2013’s Born Sinner and 2014’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive, received generally positive reviews from critics while both albums debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart.
