Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music premièred on Broadway in 1959 and the film version starring Julie Andrews was released in 1965. Although the film is set in Salzburg, most of it was actually shot in Hollywood and only a few location shots were taken in Austria.
The Sound of Music has been revived on Broadway several times and was recently made into a live television musical event starring Carrie Underwood.
