Classic Christmas Songs
Christmas music comprises a variety of genres of music normally performed or heard around the Christmas season. Music associated with Christmas may be purely instrumental, or in the case of many carols or songs may employ lyrics whose subject matter ranges from the nativity of Jesus Christ, to gift-giving and merrymaking, to cultural figures such as Santa Claus, among other topics. Traditionally, this music was predominantly of religious nature.
Today, however, many secular Christmas songs are now lyrics based on the Nativity story as well as other topics not limited to Christianity. In addition to these more modern works, a great deal of traditional Christmas music comes from anonymous Medieval compositions or private devotional works intended only for use within church services without ever having been published.
Many traditional Christmas carols focus on the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus, while others celebrate the Twelve Days of Christmas (the period between December 25 and January 6) or Advent. Others celebrate wintertime, while some have no religious theme whatsoever.
