Now in its ninth year, the Flynn Creek Circus Folk Festival is a community event that celebrates the art of circus and the magic of family-friendly entertainment. Featuring two world-renowned circus troupes, Flynn Creek Circus and Cirque du Soleil, the festival offers a weekend of breathtaking performances, hands-on workshops, square dancing, live music, and more. Held every year on the first weekend in August, the Flynn Creek Circus Folk Festival is a can’t-miss event for circus fans of all ages.

When is it?

The upcoming Folk Festival will be held from the 23rd to the 25th of August, with a wide variety of local and international talent scheduled to perform. Headliners for the event include Leane and Brendan Flynn, who will be playing on the main stage on the 25th.

Other notable acts include The Spotted Dogs, who will be playing on the 23rd, and The Young Folk, who are scheduled to perform on the 24th. There will also be a wide variety of food and drink available at the festival, with stalls selling everything from traditional Irish fare to international cuisine.

Where is it?

The festival takes place in a lovely rural setting, just outside the village of Kilfenora in County Clare, Ireland. The site is on the grounds of the old Kilfenora Workhouse, which was built in 1841 to house the destitute and unemployed of the area. The workhouse operated until 1921 and then fell into disrepair. It has since been restored and is now a museum. The festival takes place on the grounds of the workhouse, with camping available onsite.

They met while Busking in the city centre and decided to form a band after realising they had a shared love of traditional Irish music, Americana, country and blues. They have been playing together for over 10 years and have released three albums, “The Empire Strikes Back”, “New Boots and Panties” and “Songs from the Edge of the World”. They have toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, playing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Celtic Connections and the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Their music has been described as “rootsy acoustic folk with a bit of an edge” (The Irish Times) and “full of heart-rending beauty” (Folkwords).

They have been playing together for over 15 years and have released four albums, three of which have been nominated for Grammy Awards. In addition to their musical prowess, the Flynns are also well-respected humanitarian activists, having founded the Flynn Foundation in 2008. The foundation is dedicated to providing relief efforts for victims of natural disasters and promoting cultural and educational exchanges between countries.
